I recently decided I'd like to get back into a good bluegrass band again (I played in a couple of bands down in Southern California when I was going to college some years ago).
I studied with John Hickman for a couple of years and would say my style is something in the Earl Scruggs/Bill Emerson/John Hickman/Jim Mills genre. I also studied for a little while with Bill Knopf - in fact, I took over teaching his banjo students for about 6 months when he went touring with a bluegrass/country band that was put together many years ago by Donna Douglas (she played "Elly May Clampett" in the Beverly Hillbillies TV show eons ago) - and Bill also asked me to fill in for the regular band he played with at the time, Hot Off The Press. Those were fun times!
Sorry - like some of the better banjo players, I don't sing... :(
But - I *can* play banjo! :)
I live in Scotts Valley, but commute up to SF a few days a week for my regular day job - so if you're located in the Silicon Valley area, driving over to practice won't be a problem for me. Thanks - I look forward to hearing from your band!
