For starters, I'm open to any ideas anyone wants to throw out there.
After having played for years in ear-splittingly loud blues bands, I'm ready for something a little quieter. Maybe having a percussionist who played djembe or congas instead of a full drum set with cymbals might do a lot to bringing the volume down (and could make it easier to play smaller clubs, restaurants and coffee houses).
I haven't seen a lot of groups out there who do instrumental soul jazz, and maybe tenor sax might add a unique sound to an acoustic pop singer's act.
