Born and raised in Monroe County in South Alabama, Randy Raye grew up in a small town with a close family. His father was a farmer and his grandfather, a long time blues picker, was also a farmer. He began his training in music with piano lessons and elementary music around the age of six. This was the start of a life time of musical involvement that lead him to where is today. His passion for music and entertaining was apparent long before he began lessons and has grown stronger throughout the years. He first began stage and musical performances during junior high school performing with school mates for special programs and other events. At the age of thirteen he began playing Gospel music with several local quartets and family groups as a keyboardist, bass guitarist and drummer. After high school, he left music for a number of years and attended college but returned in the mid nineties when he became involved in musical theatre and dance as a member of the Destin Theatre Association in Destin, FL and the First City Dance Theatre in Pensacola, FL. Later he helped form a country and southern rock band along with his younger brother Casey, who is an accomplished drummer. After playing local clubs and other small venues for a short while, they teamed up with another set of brothers, John and Will Richerson, along with Billy Arnold, as The Backwood Boys. Managed by Delta Entertainment in Jackson, MS, The Backwood Boys toured throughout the country performing at clubs, resort hotels, casinos and other venues. In 1997 he joined The Yellow River Band of Northwest Florida performing at country dance clubs, annual city festivals, casinos and opened for Ty Herndon, David Lee Murphy, Leroy Parnell, Lorrie Morgan, Perfect Stranger and other country artists. He has also enjoyed the opportunity for live radio performances. Throughout the years, he has performed for and been active in organizing charity and fund raising events and had the opportunity to meet and share the stage with many great performers including the legendary Razzy Bailey and Carl Perkins. Since returning to Atlanta, GA in 2006, he has been involved in a new recording project. His first single, "Sugar Daddy", a remake of the 1980's hit by the Bellamy Brothers, was released was released in December, 2007 on RoadDawg Records with a street date of February 26, 2008. It is currently available at iTunes, iTunes international, Amazon.com, Napster, Rhapsody.com, Snocap, Myspace Music Store and Emusic. The physical cd single is available for purchase at www.randyrayebarlow.com and myspace.com/randyrayebarlow.
