Sharing the same birthday as John Lennon, I'm a Keyboardist & vocalist who's been playing for 34 years. Born on October 9th 1970 in Portland Oregon, I now call
Denver Colorado my home! I have an extensive background playing gospel, blues, and other styles of music. His musical background started at the age of four when his parents enrolled him in classical piano lessons, which he continued to take until the age of 18. He grew up playing the piano and B3 Organ in Church, sang in the Choir, and started his first Rock Band at 17 years of age, called- J.C. & The Water Walkers, which was encouraged by his rocker uncle. His many influences included artists such as Andre Crouch, Billy Preston, Allman Brothers, John Lennon, The Beatles, Chicago,Kansas, John Elefante, Petra, Russ Taff, The Imperials and many many others. Having come from a musical family & background, in which he & his family performed in Coffee Shops during the "Jesus" movement in the early 70's, listening to records at the age of five with his dead head uncle: (when there were records) like Kansas, Billy Preston, Lee Michaels & Leon Russell, and being a huge gospel/blues music fan gave him the influence and encouragement to pursue music professionally. Ricks musical influences include The Allman Brothers, Govt. Mule, The Beatles, Delbert McClinton, BB king, Eric Clapton, Dickey Betts, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimmy Vaughn, Doc Ross, The Blues Brothers, Andre Crouch, Van Morrison, Kansas, Grateful Dead, The Beatles, Steve Winwood, Billy Preston, Kerry Livgren, John & Dino Elefante, and many others. Since that time: He has performed with The Blues Brothers Band in 2001 through 2003, The late great blues legend Paul Delay, The Linda Hornbuckle Band, Curtis Selgado in the early 90's, and with The Norman Sylvester Band in May of 2007. He has also performed at The Portland Blues Festival with Robert Cray, The late Gatemouth Johnson, Norman Sylvester and Jimmy Vaughn. And has opened for the Bryan Setzer Orchestra back in Portland, Oregon in 1997. Most recently he had the opportunity to open for and play with Gregg Allmans son: Devon Allman & Honeytribe on Febuary 16th 2008 at the Toad Tavern in Littleton Colorado and again in July of 2008. In May of 2008, Rick has also performed with world renowned violinist Eugene Fodor & Majestic X. This was an original Rock Band featuring Fodor, mixing hard rock with classical music. This band was backed by well known producer, Mark Berry. Chairman of Attack Media Group. Just type in Eugene fodor on the Youtube viewer provided on this site to see his bio and amazing talent. And you can look up Mark Berry's bio at http://www.markberry.com. And on occasion works with Billy Sprague, a well known Grammy award winning artist. go to - www.myspace.com/billysprague - Providing Keys & Organ at a local North Denver Church. The gear he is currently using is a Roland VK-7, an M-Audio Keystation Pro 88 stage piano & an Emax II Sampler. Ricks studio of choice is Macy Sound Studios located in Denver, Colorado & Trick Pickle Studios in Brighton Colorado. Although he has played the blues & gospel circuit professionally for the last 20 years, he still enjoys playing other styles and working in the studio on multiple projects. And lastly, Rick still continues to work on various projects, collaborating with multiple artists in and around the Denver area. Whether doing session work on an album, or filling in on organ & keys for live venues, churches, local benefits and fundraisers. If your needing keys on your studio projects, or needing keys & organ at your live venue, please feel free to contact Rick. Thanks
