About
I am a Lead guitarist/composer/arranger/co-producer/songwriter and lyricist: You can here some of my music at www.RobertJamesMusic.com
Since attending and graduating G.I.T. (Musicians Institute) in 1989, I have made my living sometimes as a professional musician though mainly as a private guitar instructor. The styles I have played, in chronological order, include metal, rock, progressive rock, blues, folk, some jazz, new age, acoustic, classical, and performing solo as a singing guitarist songwriter. I can read and write charts and have a lot of patience when it comes to creating beauty. I have chops and the maturity to use them.
The style I tend toward these days are a mix blues, jazz, rock, ambient, acoustic and electric with world influences. I like to rock out but not all night. I enjoy playing sparsely arranged, spacious, gentle, artistic and sensual music as part of a balanced set. I am a versatile musician and person and I like music that meets all of that.
What I am looking for: 1st, An original and professional band situation. Co-creating, recording and performing with rehearsals in or close to the Boulder area using my musical strengths: creating arrangements that compliment the lead vocalist's melody, co-creating compositions and songs (including lyrics), improvisation and playing lead guitar that reaches into hearts and souls in a way that gets peoples attention. I enjoy both supporting a vocalist and playing instrumentally.
I am also open to joining projects that are not yet fully formed but promising. I should mention that I am hesitant to work with vocalists who don't play an instrument or have any other musicians to back them. This usually means that I would be the sole accomanyment and, for me, just strumming chords gets to be unfulfilling in a hurry.
