ABOUT

Note: I can be reached at silverwulf2 at - Now, on to my profile...

I'm a 34 year old guitarist, primarily interested in joining an existing rock, alternative, or metal type band with a similar vision. However, I'm also open to starting something completely new if I get contacted by the right group of people. First, let me tell you a little about myself, then I'll go into what I'm looking for in a band...

I'm 34 and have been playing guitar for approximately 15 years. I've been in the DC area since around 2003 and have been in and out of a handful of rock and metal bands, playing everything from radio rock to the most obscure of metal. Over the course of the last 9 years, I've recorded demos and EP's, did home recordings, played in shows spanning the East Coast, etc. I've been on stage in the smallest hole-in-the-wall bars at odd hours and played in the largest venues the DC area has to offer during prime time slots. What am I looking for? I'm looking for a group of like-minded musicians that share the same vision as me and want to have fun writing music that everyone can enjoy. I have professional level gear, from 70's and 80's Marshalls to modern Mesa Rectos and few pedal boards stocked with a variety of effects, from the run-of-the-mill you'll find at Guitar Center, to custom made or boutique gear you'd be on a 2 year wait list to get. I rotate gear in and out a lot. I pride myself on great guitar tone and appropriate playing, always wishing to play in accordance with the song and fill the gaps that it has.

I'm a songwriter, oftentimes supplying riffs, lyrics, and sometimes vocal melodies to the bands I'm in. There's times I bring complete songs to the group, other times I bring an idea that I want to flush out together. I'm laid back, and I'm dedicated to the group, giving it 110% when I'm there and we're playing, writing, or recording. On the same hand, I also have a life and family outside of music. I view music and the band as a "serious hobby". What does that mean? It means that I don't have a desire to practice 3 times a week, play 4 shows a month, and treat the band like a "second job". When I leave work, I'm ready to relax and have fun, not feel like I'm clocking into a second job when I walk into our practice space. If you want a dedicated, laid back, enthusiastic guitarist that you can write, record, and play occasional shows with while practicing maybe once a week or once every other week, then we should talk. If you need a guitarist to complete your line-up, hit the Sunset Strip, tour the US and take over the world, then I promise I'm not your guy.

What type of band am I looking to join or start? Well, I came of age in the 90's, so I've always had a soft spot for 90's grunge/alternative music, as well as post-grunge bands that followed. Ive played in countless metal bands and have nothing against it, because I love heavy riffs and songs...but I'm also ready to focus on music that a wider audience can enjoy. I'm looking for a band that combines good guitar riffs and hooks with great vocals and memorable melodies that folks can sing along to. I'd like to find a band that combines the best elements of the 90's grunge movement with the radio rock that followed, blending in some heavier elements. Examples of these bands would include:

90's Grunge/Alternative: Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Live, Smashing Pumpkins, Candlebox, etc.
Post-Grunge/Modern: 3 Doors Down, Hinder, Creed, Alter Bridge, Stone Sour, Nickelback, Seether, etc.

If I could craft the album I hear in my head, I'd write an album that combined the best elements of Alice in Chains "Dirt" with Pearl Jam's "Ten" and Live's "Throwing Copper". Huge vocal melodies, sing along songs, guitars riffing appropriately, etc. Melodic vocals - not screaming - and something that could be heard on the radio, as well as fit in easily on a bill with hard rock bands.

Do you have a band that's looking for a guitarist, or are you interested in starting something up? If you've read this far and you're still interested, shoot me an email and let's chat. You can reach me at...

Influences

I originally picked up a guitar because of Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi, spending my first 2 years playing learning just about Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin song I could. From there, I moved onto playing along with the grunge movement popular during my high school days in the 90's (Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, etc) and was instantly hooked on Metallica (who wasn't?) and other rock and metal bands such as Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, RUSH, etc. These days, I'm into a little bit of everything. One moment I'll have on UFO, the next I'll be playing Boston, then I'll change gears and put in modern bands like Creed/Alter Bridge or break out Stone Sour. I'm influenced by just about any great songwriting that has memorable parts and catchy hooks.
