I started out always playing Keyboards, Classic Rock -Blues - New rock- Honkey-tonk, Southern Rock... style, country, 50's, 60's, 70's,& 80's, Have played disco, funk top 40 in Horn bands. I was on the road for many years as a sound Tech. I worked with a couple sound companys also Help do sound for some pros I had alot of fun...I have been playing or involved with music for 40 years. Looking back I’m glad I had a Parent that insisted I have lessons and practice the proper way then what they did. I started lessons when I was around 8 years old, first I studied Organ then Piano. There were many hours spent on lessons, some times playing things I wasn’t supposed to or saying out loud “I’ll never be able to play” my mother would not hear any of that, she would always tell me “Oh Yes You Will.” I have her to thank for my playing yesterday and today.
My forte’ has been influenced by many artists from the 1950’s thru the 1990’s. These are just a few that have played a huge part in developing my style: Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, Del Shannon, Booker T & the MG’s, The Doors, Santana, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Deep Purple, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Led Zeppelin, Kansas, Boston, Journey, Bob Seger, LoverBoy, and Stevie Ray Vaughn.
The gear I use is Korg Triton Pro, Korg Trinity Pro, Yamaha Keyboard line mixer, Shure Mics, Ashley Amps, CGM Keyboard Monitors and my old stand by… Leslie Speaker Tone Cabinets, and a serious collection of over 30 pairs of Sunglasses.
Around 1968 I started playing in a band for teen dances. By 1972, I was playing 2 or 3 times a week in bars. We had to have our parents drive us and stay with us because we were so young. By the time my high school years came along I got my drivers licence and off I went-unstopable. More bands, more keyboards, and many, many more dances. The music world was mine for the taking. For 3 years I was in the band Fiasco, we played many original pieces. We got to make an album and 2 songs actually got air-time on our local radio station in Cumberland, MD. They even appeared on a few choice jukeboxes in the area. By the 1980’s I was making a living playing music.
For several years in the mid 1980’s I had the opportunity to tour the East Coast and many Mid West states playing for weeks at a time in A & B rooms.
Around 1988 I started working with a company by the name of ShowTime Entertainment out of Raleigh, NC where I was the Primary Sound Technician/Equipment Manager for the band “The Limit”. While there I got to work with bands/musicians like: The Guess Who, John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band, Joan Jet, and Britny Fox. By 1990 my touring days had come to an end, on came my dreams of owning my own sound company. “Lightning Rod Productions” was born. I met performers from bands like The Road Ducks, The OutLaws, Molly Hatchet, OverKill, The Romantic’s, and Raging Slab. Later as a favor to a friend I joined forces to his sound company “Data Sound”. This proved to be an excellent opportunity to still be involved in music and or the production of music. I got to work with some major artists like Daron Norwood; Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Chely Wright, Keith Urban, The Amazing Rhythm Aces, John Patitucci, Andy Griggs, Deanna Bogart, Brian Howe (from Bad Company fame), Jeff Carlisi (from 38 Special fame), The Vogues, Steve Whiteman (from Kix fame), and Funny Money, Joey Belladonna of Anthrax fame. All through the years I still continued to play in cover bands, popular music or traditional classic rock. In 2003 my music life came to a screeching halt. I found myself moving to Southern New Jersey. For 3 years I found myself without the one thing I’ve always had, My music. When we finally got settled I started putting out feelers to see where I would have to go in order to play in a band again. In 2006 I found a Classic Rock Tribute Band by the name of “Stage3”, I was with them for 2 years.
