What I am looking for in this next generation group is this:
We need to have fun.
We need to share our own faith walk... it's a Christian group.
We need to share in the creativity.
I've played for more than a few years, and been writing since high-school. Each group that I've played with has had songwriters besides myself. These are the simple rules that govern the group:
Each person is an equal part of the group.
Each person contributes with feedback (open).
Each person adds their own 'style' to the final piece. We have to make it our own and have an ownership!
The original songwriter has the last word on music composition.
My music tastes are varied from gospel, rock, bluegrass, folk, jazz, swing and alternative. I find that a variety keeps things interesting... but, we need to find what 'our' sound is like.
This group will have harmony, various lead singers/duets, etc.
We will have a variety of instruments to bring our a rich sound.
Musicians WILL NOT COMPETE for sound. When everyone is trying to play lead or loud enough to hear themselves we lose track of the song.
I like a simple songs, but we can do complex music.
There should be 'cover' songs, but also a variety of our own creations.
Our music should be able to be performed during a service, a concert, or other venue.
I enjoy a good rhythm, bass line, beat. Not all songs will have these... there is room for variety.
My immediate goal is to chat with prospective members about what their own goals are and what they'd like to get out of being a member in a group. Then find a place that we could jam around some popular songs... both contemporary and old school to see how we work together. In the last year I've rewritten The Lords's Prayer and put Jesus, Loves Me to a swing/rock style. I enjoy playing with the old and experiencing the new.
Once we have a sound we would need to find different avenues/venues to play at and get a feeling for performing. Stage presences is very important.
Later, recording and playing for a wider audience.
We need to practice at least weekly and I've been known to do 'sectionals' with songwriters or leads to work out a sound without taking up the time of the group. People have busy lives and I want to make sure we are invested in producing a sound that we can all be proud of.
Please give me your feedback on this and be sure that I have a working phone number so we can chat.
Also let me know what instruments you have, and what 'voice' you have (soprano, alto, tenor, bass), and other equipment that might be useful.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Jesus Loves Me (Swing/Rock)
Jesus Loves Me (Swing/Rock) Year: 2012 Genre: Alternative
This is more swing than rock, but a nice infusion. I wrote this for our church's ALPHA program. People picked up on this very quickly and I saw a lot of people 'steppin' to this the very first time.
