About

I am an old (but age is just a number) pre-baby-boomer, working saxist,and a reformed sexist (I belong to SA, as in AA); very versatile, with genres of music that include big band, jazz, classic rock, southern rock, country, Christian rock, Jewish rock; etc. I am relocating to Camarillo CA, where I have family, from Ocala FL, where I have been playing with a working classic rock band, The Plane Rock Band, and also playing with another group doing lounge gigs playing light jazz for dinner and flute (clarinet too). I play mostly by ear, and memory, but I also read music; I play in all keys; I also transpose in my head and/or from lead sheets. I also play flute on a few choice songs, but I ain't so great at .I also sing; I also serve as M.C. where necessary; and even do some good clean comedy if needed, and where appropriate. I'm prompt, and quite reliable. I've worked comfortably as a sideman; but I've also managed my own bands. I fit in well. As a sideman, I keep pretty much quiet and I don't upstage anybody. As a band manager, I am a prick with high expectations for alacrity as well as quality. There is one thing that really pisses me: practicing the next song in between songs: I like complete silence between one song and the next; and I like to move right along from one to the next. However,, I am very opinionated. I hate mendacity, which is endemic to new and used car sales, lawyers, corporate CEOs and the like, I am a politician-basher. I beat my kids when they weregrowing up and they three of them love me for it and believe it helped them turn out better as adults. Influences

Anybody and everybody famous whose ever played sax, all the way from Georgie Auld to Clarence Clemmons. I really love to do Chicago horn work, and next behind that is Silver Bullet Band horn backups and solo work. But I also like the real old stuff, from the 1930's forward.

Equipment List

Have tenor sax; will travel (locally). I can also work solo, with backing tracks and my own Fender sound equipment. I've also backed solo vocalists with their own backing tracks, adding solo work; and same for lounge keyboard/vocalists looking to do duo lounge work.
