I'm a 59 year old married semi-retired who likes to play keyboard. MYSPACE.COM/flashbacktwo
I've been playing keyboard since the age of 14. Growing up, my family had panios and home organ, so I played them. Some formal education in music with trumpet in a school band and Durm & Bugle band. Also took panio lessions. Learned mostly everything by ear, but best at identifing notes and chords this way. Even on the fly. I can read sheet music, if needed to. Self taught using music theory books. Began playing in bands at the age of 16 doing 60's rock. Played the 50's and 70's in the 70's. Some country in the late 70's. My keyboard style is to play the lead the way it is, but do like to do my own thing, as well. Got a real job and just did music in my studio. Currently, playing with my wife, Angie, in a two piece band using MIDI and my keyboard to do the back up drums and bass parts.
First influence was from Del Shannon's Runaway, followed by Lovin' Spoonfuls' Summertime in the City. Both had great keyboard parts as well as Santana, Doors, Spencer Davis and Booker T.
Then came the Beatles (early years), Stones (all years), Byrds, Kinks, Who, Hollies, Skynyrd, Yardbirds,Moody Blues, Foreigner, BTO, Chicago (did the brass section), Steppenwolf, Guess Who, Jefferson, Grass Roots, Box Tops, Los Bravos, Mitch Ryder, Willson Picket, Silver Bullet Band, Boston, Shondells, Outsiders, to name a few.
Having played the Hammond M3, could not find anyone to carry the B3, my favorite keyboard was the Korg and a Rhodes panio. Currently use a double keyboard from Technics with all the various sounds. Have full sound system with Pevey speakers but wish I kept my Bose.
