ABOUT

My philosophy about drumming is that tasteful playing rules. No greedy drumming here. The song comes first. I'm a rock solid player with fine meter. I know when to spice things up and when to lay back. I believe in respecting the groove, the dynamics, the song, the singer, the soloist. I don't have to play everything I know every four measures. I want to play with other mature musicians who feel the same way. I'm a good lead vocalist and backing vocalist and have a great ear for harmony. I know how to pick songs for my voice. I'm 62 and can definitely still rock. I forgot my age a long time ago!! Not gonna be dragged down by preconceived notions as to what "state" I should be in based on the number years lived. It's always seemed like a double standard to me, that so many bands wouldn't THINK of having a member over 30. But at the same time, everyone those same bands idolize and copy (Clapton, Beck, McCartney, etc.) are in their late sixties and early seventies. Anyway, don't get me started!! I'd love to play with other mature musicians who have learned how to leave the ego locked in the basement. I'm very much in tune with Daryl Hall's philosophy, "Serve the song!" I relate VERY much to the playing of Brian Dunn, Daryl's drummer, most of the time, on Live From Daryl's House. Serve the song!

In my music samples here on my page, there is a compilation of segments from a few live gigs. Apologies for the lacking quality of those recordings, but you'll get the idea. Also there is one session recording from a band I was in several years ago. The song is "Never Wanna Lose Your Love." There is also a segment from an original song of mine, "It Takes Me Back." Starts out as a tribute to The Beatles, hence the Beatle-ish, retro sound. It's actually about how music from any given time triggers personal memories from that time. I wrote, played, sang and recorded all you hear, except two of the four guitar parts. Also there is a compilation of original production music which I wrote for use in commercials. I do voice-over work, etc., hence the occasional need for custom production music. I thank you very much for your time!

EQUIPMENT

I sometimes use my vintage Rogers set I bought in 1976, with a 1975 Ludwing Super Sensitive Black Beauty snare and a combination of Sabian, Paiste and Zildjian cymbals. Tom sizes are 12", 13", 14", 15" & 16" with a 14"x22" bass drum. I don't ever mind cutting that set down for particular gigs or situations. I own a Yamaha electronic set that I have used live but mainly I use for home practice. I also have a couple of other sets. My vocal mic is a Sennheiser e 935.

Currently (2013) I've "created" / cobbled a set that I LOVE which I'm now using live. Pearl 18"x22" bass drum, and Remo Legerro 8", 10", 13" and 16" toms with a 1975 Ludwing Super Sensitive Black Beauty snare and a combination of Sabian, Paiste and Zildjian cymbals. The Remo toms really "sing" and the set sounds wonderful.
