Progressive acoustic.
From the Cleveland, Ohio area, Steve Alan Johns has been playing the guitar since age 13. Growing up in the era of rock music of the 1960’s and 70’s, Steve had been influenced by the sound of hard rock; but also was influenced by acoustic rock as it was popular at that time. Another influence was the more technical music theory of bands such as John McLaughlin and the Mahavishnu orchestra, Jeff Beck, Yes, and later alternative indie artists. Steve never quite fit in with popular music – he had pursued his own path: resulting in solo instrumental performances.
If the name of Johns sounds familiar, you will recognize that Steve is the older brother of Doug Johns a premier bassist in the Funk-style bass world.
Steve left the regional music scene in the mid-1980’s and pursued college and a career in information technology. After a 25-year hiatus from the music scene (but playing the guitar intermittently), Steve Alan Johns has once again become involved seriously with the guitar and mandolin – currently exploring a more mature and refined acoustic-electric sound.
