My name is Steve, I'm 23 years old, and I'm currently in a band called Future Vagrant. Things are kind of slow right now and I'm interested in something new. I've been playing guitar about 7 years. I want to start a 3 or 4 piece modern alternative type band, or join an already established band with some nice grooves. I'm looking for a drummer and a bass player who want to practice a few times a week, and play out on the weekends and such. If it turned into a paying gig, I'd be pleased. If you are already an established band in my area and looking for a guitar player with some style, look no further. I'm self taught and take a differnet approach to my playing; not your typical 3-chord rhythm guitarist. I like to rely heavily on the bass player and drummer and like to fill in the empty spots with strange chords and off-time displacement and reggae style playing, but don't let that fool you. I can be a leader if need be. I'm also into the pop-punk type scene. I currently do lead vocals in my band as well. I'd really like to stick to strictly guitar playing, but I'll sing if I have to.

Influences:

Andy Summers - very underrated as a player. My personal favorite guitar player. The things Andy did in The Police and even on his solo albums have had a huge effect on my perception of music and guitar playing. He taught me how to fill in the spaces between bass and drums rather than just play straight chords all of the time, and he really made me realize the value of individual notes within chords and what they sound like broken down. I used to play mainly hard rock and metal which required little effort and originality. Now I truly see all of the different colors and shapes that the guitar is capable of producing. He's a Fender player also - a big plus in my book.

Jeremy Enigk - Fantastic song writer. I'm not a fan of today's "emo" movement, but back in the day, Sunny Day Real Estate invented the emotional hardcore genre or at least set the standard in Seattle. Some of their music makes me tear up and smile at the same time. If you haven't listened to Sunny Day, do it now.

Eric Clapton - Pure Stratocaster tone. Enough Said. He's done a lot in his illustrious career. I'm sure he has a few more tricks up his sleeve.

John Frusciante - Drugs... are responsible for some of the glorius compositions he has produced. He truly set a standard mixing funk with rock. He and Flea work magically together; great music!

David Gilmour - There will never be another David Gilmour. His solos are impeccable and graceful. He owns the Stratocaster with the serial number 0001.

Jim Adkins - Raw emotion. Jimmy Eat World is one of my favorite bands. I watch them play and say, "I want to do that." He closes his eyes and lets his fingers and voice do the work.

Dave Grohl - Nirvana. Foo Fighters. Queens of the Stone Age. Them Crooked Vultures. If you like Dave Grohl, you know what I'm talking about.

Trey Anastasio - Uh, yeah. Who doesn't like Trey Anastasio?

I also enjoy much of the modern rock heard on mainstream radio today, as well as upcoming indie acts. When I hear a sweet riff, it makes me want to play.

I have many more as well.
