I am looking for musicians interested in recording original ideas first or even revamped covers w/ extended improv then maybe local cover gigs for starters if the chemistry is right, after that the sky is the limit if the chemistry is right. I don't need the money or fame, but some adventure and fun (maybe even a little debauchery!) would be welcome. Must have a strong appreciation for '80s music, including understanding where it was coming from. I don't get the vibes from much of today's self hate/world hate attitude, the '80s were a different time. This whole music thing is supposed to be fun.

If you are one of these people that might pick up the guitar for two months, then get bored and not play again for 6 months, or might have a jam setup but decide to watch some TV show instead at random, or don't feel like practicing very often, then we are on a different wavelength. I'm looking for people that LOVE music and NEED it and have drive. Getting something good together means staying with it, it's not something you do 3 times a year if you want to reach a high level.

No drugs or flakes, I don't have time for either. Unfortunatley, a busy day job prevents me from goofing off as much as I'd like, so in the past I've enjoyed bouncing jam CDs/ideas back and forth often and then having a jam together in person once we have some kind of ideas forming. I simply don't have the time to meet in person for hours every day unless something really good is coming into view.

Influences:

I'm into '70s/'80s rock and metal across a wide range and appreciate musicians with at least some technical skill. This includes the icons---Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, early Metallica, early Ozzy and many others including poppier bands like early Journey (with Greg Rolie especially). I can appreciate The Police, U2 and '80s New Wave and also Alternative like early Cult and many others (which I consider far better than '90s and up Top 40 "alternative").

I can also appreciate the early classics such as Zep, early Floyd, King Crimson, The Beatles, Hendrix, Yes, etc. Moving forward, I like the unpredictable nature of more recent bands like the Mars Volta and I am a very big fan of Janes Addiction, the energy involved. Or Radiohead from time to time for pure creativity. I also like beautiful music, like instrumentals from Al di Meola and technical music like Dream Theater, but with a bit less wankery.

Bottom line, I like loud music, but with balance. Life has many emotions, anger, happiness, love, melancholy, sadness, triumph, etc, music captures these like nothing else. I don't attempt to tailor music for an audience, such as being obligated to be always being heavy for the young headbangers or writing only ballads/love songs for that audience, I simply think of it as a vehicle to express what I'm feeling at the time. That said, I like to have a definite edge in most of my music.

Being mainly a guitarist that enjoys co-writing songs (I'm good with music, no so much for lyrics), my guitar influences include Neal Schon, Jake E. Lee, Zakk Wylde, early Steve Vai, Andy Summers, KK Downing/Glen Tipton, Warren di Martini, etc.

Equipment List:

I have a basement music studio where reasonable volume is no problem (would consider renting space if a good band is formed), numerous guitars--PRS, Charvel, Fender, Ibanez, etc, Mesa Boogie and Marshall amps, bass, a good drum machine suitable for demos, keyboard and 16 track digital recording setup with mics, enough to produce a high quality CD.
