I am a solid rhythm guitar player interested in joining an adult dance band that plays an eclectic mix of easy-listening music. The only stipulation is that we will perform for tips rather than salary, which will give us a much wider choice of venues. It will also insure that we continue playing music for the sheer joy of it, rather than working music for the money. Experience has taught me that music-making joy is contagious, and if we keep the audience happy, they will be generous.
I would also like to be involved in the formation of a small, creative combo that emphasizes the vocals and encourages its participants to contribute their original work. Genres to include folk, blues, country, pop and soft rock. Within an egalitarian power structure, everyone's artistic input will be valued and their self-expression encouraged. We will endeavor to transcend our egos in order to sing/play from our hearts and experience the magic of co-creative musical synergy.
Performance venues in the Albany-Corvallis area will be low-key, smoke-free environments. Primary focus will be on the process of making music together, and our collective vision will evolve from that. Minimum commitment should be to play together (practice or perform) once a week. Gigs will be democratically decided upon by the group. Of course, the two types of groups I just described could actually be one and the same. If your interest has been aroused, please contact me through gmail addressed to "tipgig".
My musical style has been most strongly influenced by the folk and rock music of the sixties, seventies and eighties. That being said, I love almost all melodic and rhythmic compositions, from European classical music to West African drumming.
I think I share the sentiments of Victor Hugo when he wrote, "Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent."
I have several good acoustic and electric guitars and amplifiers, plus a modest PA system (8 channels, 500 watts) and some stage gear.
