The Damnit Dolls are an up and coming Indie, Blues, Garage Rock band, haling from Lincoln, NE. The two-piece band consists of longtime musicians Vince Ruhl (Drums) & Derek Outson (Guitar, Vocals, and Piano). As a band, the two 18-year-old boys are ever combining Ruhl's intense garage rock beats with Outson's soulful, and lyrical blues background into a mixture of anthemic rock, and catchy melodies. Although the two boys are self-proclaimed relatively clean young men, The Damnit Dolls formed in The Winter of 2007 as a reaction to an overly polished pop music scene, and took to playing gritty, blues-influenced rock that is reminiscent of late 60’s rock/pop, and other acts such as The Strokes, The White Stripes, Spoon, The Smashing Pumpkins, and legendary blues artists such as Freddy King and Elmore James.
While keeping their pop sensibilities, Vince and Derek are brought together by their love of vintage tones and recordings. The band records on as much vintage gear as possible, with little to no use of computers, in keeping with the raw sound that resonates around the band’s songs. Onstage, The Damnit Dolls wear 60’s clothing, somewhat inspired by the fashion icon group “Teddy Boys” and other vintage trends, in reflection to their gritty, yet accessible sound.
Although a relatively young band, The Damnit Dolls are self-sustaining and always increasing in number of fans. Brining in larger and larger crowds to each show, the band is creating quite a stir in the local music scene. A journalist for The Wayne Stater (a local college paper) happened to catch one of the band’s shows and wrote a review. Mr. Kruse of the Stater summed up the music as “a beautiful form of blues-tinged, post-ado hormone pop that is equally charming as it is impressive”. Mr. Kruse also called Outson a “music archival enthusiast cum-gifted songwriter” and praised the band for sticking to “honest music”. The Damnit Dolls have shared the stage with acts such as White Light Riot, Afroman, and Thunder Power, and are always being recruited by national touring acts to open up for them.
The Damnit Dolls are a band that's committed to bringing well-versed musicianship into a scene that is all too lost in glossy computer-cover-ups. The boys have always had a “do it yourself” attitude, which drives them to go above and beyond hobbyist-musicians and let their music be a fulltime career. And while creating an exciting style of music, with a refreshing sense of energy, this duo attracts a wide variety of fans and guarantees an enthralling musical ride.
