Dictionaries define “the dt’s” as slang for a delusional state with tremors after a long bout of drinking. In other words, the worst is about over and you’re about to be sober. In this music group, it’s about starting over. The “D” & “T” in the name stand for Darren and Tom. Darren Hurst and Tom Rouse are both singer/songwriters who have had their own music careers before joining forces. They met in the fall of 2007 and gradually started working together as a duo. With tight harmonies and strong vocals, they work together like some of the great duets of the past. Either one can sing lead or harmonize, which they do switch up from time to time. Whether it’s Margaritaville, Folsom Prison Blues, Sweet Home Alabama or Pride & Joy, you’ll be on your feet or clapping your hands as they belt out some of your favorites. And then, when you least expect it, they’ll throw in an original they’ve written and you just might think it’s already a hit song. Darren got his start singing in churches and a brief stint singing for a rock band in the ‘80’s. Since then he’s been doing solo acoustic shows and fronted a few cover bands before meeting Tom. Tom was raised in a musical family and has played wherever they’ll let him: streets, bars, churches, schools, retirement homes; you name it, he’s probably played there. He says that meeting Darren pulled him back from the quitting point. They’ve both been writing songs for several years now. As accomplished, but as yet unpublished songwriters, they still work for the day that the right person hears their music. Just recently they’ve added drummer, Dave McAlpine; bassist, Rob D.; and Rusty Miller on lead guitar; still playing shows and doing their best to give the crowd a fun-filled, rockin’ show! With their personalities and varied backgrounds you’ll stay on your toes wondering what they’ll say or do next. That’s the amazing part about The DT’s, they can do ANY style well. You’ll enjoy these guys no matter what your favorite style of music happens to be.
