I've been playing guitar for about a year and a half. I'm a tenor with a broad range.
I'd like to play with anyone interested in reaching out for something with their music/art. I sing and play guitar, and am finally beginning to perform properly/understand how music works. If you have songs you'd like to show me of your own or others you like that'd be great, and if you're interested in playing covers live while we build up our own material for performing then we're set to begin. I need a drummer and bassist, but would like other musicians too. I want to take the music as far as possible because the Cleveland area is prime for the kind of energy release enthusiastic musicians can bring about. I like the mechanics of melody and the places you can go with amplifiers, effects pedals and heavy rythm, but also sentimental and disturbing songs. It depends what the song is about. I'm 21 and untouched by the eventual obligations of the professional adult universe and I'm looking for similarly unburdened people that love creating stuff. Being able to practice once or twice a month would be enough at first. I want people to feel if they like what I'm about before they commit to anything. Once I have a proper band I want to start playing shows fairly regularly in the area. The band name is tenative since I really haven't thought of one yet. No Christian rockers, no neo-nazis need apply. I'm looking for people that are indifferent to social expectations about what's cool or not. email me at j.o.pritchett@csuohio.edu. This site doesn't let me contact any of you so if I add you to my contact list it means I'm interested in what you put out.
Most of the alternative rock you can think of from the early 1990's all the way back to formative 70's Punk. New wave in between, pop from all over the centuries always occupies a unique place too, obscure ethnic music, overall any provably good music. I'm still inclined toward guitars, 4/4 drums and verse-chorus-verse due to my relative ignorance of music theory (in the process of broadening that horizon haha). Dirgy Folk and Blues has a place in my lexicon as well. If you're interested in the specific bands I like be sure to ask. I'd like to make music that is terrifically offensive to people whose thoughts and feelings are dangerously safe and ignorant and empathizes with people who are unconventional.
Oh hell, here's a bunch of bands to name a few: Sonic Youth, The Smiths, Janes Addiction, REM, Pixies, Tears for Fears, Mamas and Papas, The Doors, Radiohead, Simon and Garfunkel, The Sex Pistols, The Clash, Patti Smith, Benny Goodman, Howlin' Wolf etc. Unusual stuff, stuff that's sold well etc. I do have credibility as well when it comes to knowing about less commercial bands. I'd love to be a commercial band though, just with integrity and an intention to spread consciousness.
