ABOUT

I studied classic piano for a few years as a kid but lost interest as my teachers managed to completely suck the life out of it for me. Fast forward a few years when I have a wild epiphany about how much I missed having music in my life and urgently needed it back Fast forward even more years of me teaching myself to play keys for upwards of 5 hours a day, all the while my mother constantly tells me to "start learning to sing now you're going to wish you did." and me promising I'd never care to. *Me timidly telling my mom I actually do want to sing... She doesn't say "in your face." and I'm shocked. Fast forward a few more years of me having no more of a voice than a frog; during this time I started going to CC with intent on studying music. 2 years of studying music theory, and piano, in college later, with a fair bit more croaking I'd manage finally make some progress in- you guessed it - ballet? A year or two of that, all the while I was attempting to write scores for my dance studio, I got in to Cornish College of the Arts where I studied songwriting and composition. 1 year later of enduring hours of some people spending more time stroking their own egos than giving any thought to the future of us as musicians. That, plus only having a single opportunity to perform throughout my entire year, made it clear to me that if I wanted to stay true to myself as a musician, I'd have to do things my own way. "Fight the establishment!" My 3rd eye was opened as I walked out the door, knowing exactly what I needed to do now that I was finally free! Fast forward a year of me practicing non-stop with even less opportunities then I had at school (not being in school and all) and no one to start a band with, I had to do something drastic; Since I could no longer blame my professors and piers for my increasing struggle to make better music I felt sad. This sadness made me strong... After a year of suffering, that is. I locked myself in my tinyhouse, at least when I wasn't teaching piano, to find, again, what music meant to me. I have, I really have now, but I'm really limited by having to write, perform, mix, master, and film my own content. That plus it's very hard to find gigs as a solo artist, at least in the places I'd like to get them. I'm currently working on a set for a band I'd like to put together which I'll hopefully be finishing up by July 2017; when I complete it I'd love to find a drummer, bassist, possibly another keyboardist, and lead guitar. Within a year I should have a proper practice space and recording studio to work with, though still slightly limited. I'd be singing lead and keys when I'm not up and about. I'd love to band members to be able to sing harmonies. I'll be looking for bandmates close-ish to my age, 21.

P.S. The videos on my be channel /c/trevindahl, while not necessarily outdated, don't quite represent where I'd like to go with my music, and I'm working on newer content.

EQUIPMENT

Roland FA-08 Workstation, MPK 249, Focusrite 2i4 interface, KRK Rokit 5's (I'll probably be upgrading most of this when I build my new workspace, I have some drums someone left at my house that I'll probably have to give back, an acoustic bass thing, and a few guitars. Drums need tuning. I also have a violin, I don't play any of these instruments but I'd assume most dedicated musician would rather use their own equipment anyway.
