ABOUT

Well, I'm weird. My riffs are heavy as hell, but really catchy. I just play what sounds good to my ears. I entertained the notion of being lead singer, but as good as some of my lyrics are my voice is really bizarre. Also I'm not quite able to play and sing at the same time, though I am working on it, and would love to do backing vocals or trade off parts with the lead singer.

I was raised on Punk Rock, Grunge, and Thrash, when I started developing a musical taste of my own I went right into Nu Metal, and am starting to get into MeloDeath. The only reason I can't really get into it (or Metalcore, Deathcore, Screamo etc.) is the vocals. If I had to break it down I'd say my/our/the band should be about: 30% clean vocals, 60% yelling/ distorted, and the remainder screams and growls. I love screams and growls, but I strongly believe they should be 1 word or sound not entire phrases/sentences/passages of lyrics.
When you try to scream/growl more then 1 word/sound the lyrics lose ALL! their meaning; and the sound of the scream/growl itself loses ALL! its power.

I tune to drop A# and C standard; but I'm not as beholden to my tuning of choice as other guitarists, I simply chose it using a blind test method: tuning up and down w/o a tuner until just the sound of the 6th string open or palm muted was the best damn thing ever, and consistently ended up at C/A#. I love the idea of 2 guitarists using 2 different tunings but no one else seems as adventurous :(

When I first set up this account I mentioned I was not able to shred, and that's changed :) So lead/only guitarist possibilities now open! Whoo! But I'd still prefer 2 guitars...

Bassists: I want you to WANT to be heard. Also, I prefer pummeling bass (ala Schism, Sober by Tool) as opposed to mushy rumbling inaudibly in the background

Drummers: Not a fan of hi pitched sounds, so I'd prefer a drummer who's easy on the ride/crash/hi hats etc. Double bassing is cool, but overused, should be a useful part of your kit (if you even have 1, which I don't care if you don't) and willing to use 1, but it's shouldn't be used all the time. fu*k COWBELLS!

Vocals: As mentioned above. This is my pickiest area, so you got more pressure, BUT just focus on cleans and yelling and you'll do fine. I can do some freaky-ass semi-distorted vocals (Marilyn Mason but harder) and screams, and maybe the occasional growl
