Now Seeking

Vocalist - General, Rhythm Guitar, Lead Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, Drums, Background Singer, Other.

About

I am looking for informal jams, focused sessions, and new projects. Electric and Acoustic: blues, rock, folk, country, alternative and originals. My style was originally influenced by Jack Casady and Phil Lesh, and I have gigged in a Hot Tuna specialty in both electric and acoustic formats. Start informally, but one never knows where things can go. Ideally, a project would be a mix of the above, where we blend multiple styles and draw from a variety of roots.

My abilities (on bass guitar) in these genres are decent and tone is very good. My approach is all about tone and drive.

In an acoustic setting I also offer guitar and tenor guitar. While these are not my primary instruments, they do enhance the possibilities. This is especially true for tenor guitar, which is fairly unique. I generally use the standard six string to develop original material.

There is a standing invitation for interested musicians to be a guest with my current project which is a semi-formal/occasional play-out group that includes guitars, keyboards and drums (and, of course, bass). We often host guest players who add vocals or a variety of instruments and singer/songwriters looking to develop their material. The project's catalog is an eclectic blend of blues, Dead, Dylan, Stones, Band, Pink Floyd, originals and more. It is very jam oriented, and we have a rehearsal space with PA and drums that are always set. We invite interested musicians to sit in for sessions with the partial or full band as is available. Whatever is best for the agenda. Naturally, I am available for sessions outside of this venue and I am always open to the creation of new projects or joining in with existing groups. I believe it is important to play with new people often; you never know where the chemistry will be found.

I have particular interest in lead guitarists who can drive a band. And, if you can handle Jorma material, you have found your Jack. Coming from a Hot Tuna background, I have an appreciation for jamming out with strong lead players of all ages.

I also have great interest in working with original material besides my own. If you are a songwriter looking for a capable band that will respect your work, you should definitely sit in with the above mentioned group. We can also explore the possibility of a separate new project specifically geared to your material.

While I seek individuals, songwriters and existing bands looking for new low end drive (electric and acoustic), I am not looking to audition for full-time working engagements. I have a career day job, but the potential for serious part-time commitment is there. If Robert Johnson or Jorma Kaukonen is in your soul, your originals demand exposure, or you just make it impossible to keep it contained.........we are absolutely taking it out. At the very least we will certainly have some fun.

Influences

For the music: Hot Tuna....Grateful Dead, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Eric Clapton, U2, Who, Stone Temple Pilots, John Mellencamp, Neil Young, Decemberists, Gillian Welch and all classic blues styles from Chicago to Delta including the likes of Rev Gary Davis, Robert Johnson, Roy Book Binder, BB King, Buddy Guy, Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf and SRV. And most deeply by Miles Davis, who pretty much sums up everything there ever was and since. For the players themselves: Jack Casady, Phil Lesh, Pino Palladino, John Entwistle, Willie Weeks, John Kahn, Duck Dunn, T-Bone Wolk, James Jamerson, Paul McCartney..and so on....A very broad influence, but I am a lifelong student of the Jack Casady sound.
