ABOUT

I started playing drums in high school with an alternative-indie band, then a punk band, then a hardcore band, then a couple blues bands, and then I ended up in a country-rock group. My last group managed to play the Red Ants pants Festival in White Sulfur Springs, MO with bands like Greg Brown, Amy helm, Todd snider, Heartless Bastards, The Waylon jennies, Robert Earl keen and of course the late Merle Haggard. I have not played in a solid group for the past 3.5 years. I am looking for other musicians around my age...30-40s, that are semi-serious about the band. I have a 3.5 y-o that takes priority over the band no matter what. I would ideally like to have a group that could practice Friday nights but would not get upset if we miss the occasional jam, especially when family obligations get in the way. I dream of playing with at least a four piece with lead guitar, bass, pedal steel, drums and possibly second rhythm guitar and vocals. Since you have to pay to contact me on Bandmix, please instead email me for free at perplextia_3.

Influences

Hmmm, how to select my influences without rambling on forever?.....I'll try to just list some groups at the top of my list: John Lennon, Jawbreaker, J.J. cale, Headlights, The Asteroids Gallaxy Tour, Jerry Douglas, Nick Drake, Bella & Sebastian, El ten eleven, Russian Circles, HAIM, Hot Water Music, Devotcka, Beirut, CCR, Jimmy Ear World (the really old stuff), My Morning Jacket, Old Modest Mouse (Lonesome Crowded West Style), Midlake, Wilco, Son Volt, Drive By Truckers, Wild Child, Arcade Fire, Tarkio, Yo La Tengo, Califone, Sunny Day Real Estate, Levon Helm, The Band, At the Drive-in, Promise Ring, Ratatat, The Black Lips, Cajun and Zydeco in general, North Mississippi Allstars, Alabama Shakes, Manu Chau, Calexico, As I lay dying, Norma Jean, Poison the Well, Leatherface, Garth Brooks, The Go! Team, The Kinks, Kings of Convenience, The Rolling Stones and the Beatles and the list goes on....I guess it would be easier to list bands that represent styles I don't want to play, here they are: Black Sabbath, Metallica, Nirvana, Slayer, Ozzy Osborn, Limp Bizkut, or any other music that falls in the "butt rock" genre. Also, I wouldn't touch Christian rock with a 10ft. pole.
