Hey Bandmix: I am looking for like-minded individuals in my area to play with on a regular basis. I'd like to eventually play out (open mic nites, festivals, etc), but in the meantime just finding some solid people that can help take our skills and experience to the next level. I can't say that I wouldnt love to produce an album or make a lot of money playing music - that would be a dream, but in the meantime, I put in a lot of hard work and practice into my playing and learning as much about myself and this instrument that I can.
About My Interest in Music: I picked up my first guitar in the early 80's and played in a couple garage bands in the 90's. I was primarily self taught and never really learned much more than the first few choruses and a riff or two of some cover tunes. After putting the guitar down through much of the late 90's and early 2000, I decided to start taking drum lessons in 2008 as a way to relieve stress and find a hobby. Unlike how I learned guitar, I wanted to learn how to improve my timing, play in syncopation (with independence on all four limbs) and to basically learn an instrument from the ground up (proper technique, music theory, sheet music/transcription reading, etc). After over a year of lessons and daily practice, I consider myself an intermediate player with a solid tempo on a variety of different music. Of course I have my favorite genres: classic rock n roll/metal, blues, 80's pop, 90's Alt/grunge, and hip-hop - quite an eclectic mix-tape, eh?
On a Personal Level: I am in my mid-thirties with a wife, son and in-between careers but working full-time, so I have limited time to play. I can typically get together locally on Thursdays or Fridays during the week or on Sundays after work.
My Playing Style: I enjoy organically playing with other people and just having fun as much as I do picking a song and playing it from start to finish. Because I am still somewhat new to playing drums, I understand that I am still learning and growing. Sometimes it takes me longer than I want to learn something or to get it down full speed, but I also realize why I play drums - and honestly, it's all about me. Playing with others is great, but I play because I enjoy playing, not because I am trying to impress anyone other than me.
My Commitment: I spend at least 15 minutes each day with rudiment training and at least as much time daily just sitting behind the kit, playing grooves or along with my iPod. I have no problems listening to a piece or style of music and learning it. I am willing to buy new music, listen, transcribe and practice outside band sessions. I also continue self-evolution by taking regular weekly professional drum lessons.
My Status: Actively Seeking Like-Minded Individuals
