I'm currently writing bossa nova songs, and I enjoy the art of composing melody. I especially enjoy taking my new compositions to jazz jams in the East Bay, South Bay and Peninsula.
In 2012, I founded the Wednesday night jazz entertainment program at Love First Slice Pizza in Newark. I call this event "Jazz The Slice", and every Wednesday, I book musicians from all over the Bay Area - to come and perform in our house band. During the spring and summer of 2012, I founded a jazz collective named "510JAZZ", and we performed as an 8-piece jazz ensemble at several parties in Fremont.
I have loved music since I was a child. My beginnings were in 70s and 80s rock and roll. Fromn 1980 to 1989, I performed with The KLA Players - a band composed of KLA Tencor employees, who practiced for two months and then perfermed at the annual Christmas Party. In the first three years I was the only vocalist. The last three years, we had 6 vocalists and I sang lead and abckup, and played alto saxophone with a three-piece horn section. Sax took alot of practice for me as I don't sight-read. This was a huge part of my music formation.
The next 20 years I sepnt raising a family. In that time, I had periodic fun with karaoke at parties and other events.
Last year I began attending the Music 16s voice classes at Ohlone College. This has been the most profound development for me, and I am loving it. I also took the Music 103 theory class, so sheet music is becoming less of a scare for me.
I love singing pieces from broadway musicals, jazz standards, 70s-80s rock, smooth jazz, contemporary jazz and bossa nova. I have a tiny bit of French, Spanish and Portuguese langauage skill, and I love to master songs in these langauages, in addition to anything in English.
