ABOUT

I'm a drummer with many years of experience. I graduated from the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA in 1989 with Honors and decided to stay to play in Los Angeles for 4+ years. I've been with the same band here in NH for 20+ years now (playing for 50-ish years now) but looking for freelance situations. I am mainly a classic rock/blues rock drummer, although I can play other genres, be it southern rock, hard rock, pop, alternative, a little prog, grunge, jazzy/funky grooves, some country, etc...if your situation warrants it.
With over 400+ songs in my lifetime repertoire to draw from, with notice, I can woodshed any for a performance. PM or email me your list. I'm always looking musically and along with continuing to work with my band, I continue to "Jam" with friends and new people I meet.
If you would like to contact me please include your info i.e.; band/artist name, experience, audio and or video, songs needed to be covered, your location, if a house kit is available, and if the situation pays (?).
What I can bring to you...
1. Be on time/early is better.
2. Be prepared/know the music.
3. Bring great gear as needed.
4. Nail the gig/job.
5. Leave everyone happy I was there!
Art Corey
~Drummer~
I have played drums for as long as I can remember as my dad was a jazz drummer and sat me behind his kit when I was 5 years. old playing Chubby Checker's "The Twist"...my first real kit was a Blue Sparkle kit I got on Christmas when I was 13 (1969) ...my mom and stepdad woke me up and I had no idea I was getting a kit. They must have known I was messing around at school. When I walked down the stairs and saw that kit set up, it blew me away! I never imagined I would get a drum kit...a 4-piece, Snare, Bass, Rack Tom, Floor Tom, Hi Hats, Ride Cymbal, and a Rivet/Sizzle "Kent" Crash/Ride Cymbal!
Boy, I wish I had that kit now.
Anyway, they had me sit down and play something of course...I started in with "Wipeout" by the "The Surfaris" and my Step Dad was in amazement (he didn't know I could play) he said "Wait a minute" and went to get his guitar and we played "Wipeout" together for the first time...LOL!!! The rest is history. I practiced at least 8 hours a day that winter & summer to 45's, albums and 8 tracks like "The Grass Roots", "Three Dog Night" and other such bands of the era. I earned a spot playing in my Step Dads “Country/50's/60's Pop” band in local clubs at age 15! I then went on to also play the various local/high school/rock band things, clubs, etc... I'm now in my 60's and still play!
More history...
After a brief stint, 7 yrs., with our Uncle Sam after high school, in 1987 I decided to attend the "Percussion Institute of Technology" (PIT) at "Musicians Institute" (MI) in Hollywood, CA. To prepare for this, I improved my knowledge/skills with local teachers, one of them being a local private instructor, Tom Freeman (R.I.P.), a student of George Lawrence Stones (author of “Stick Control “, drummers will know who he is...). In the summer of 1988, I moved to Hollywood, CA. to attend the "Percussion Institute of Technology" (PIT) at the "Musicians Institute" (MI) in Hollywood, CA. There I added to my musical knowledge. I played with and learned with/from pros such as; Doane Perry-drummer for Jethro Tull. Keith Wyatt- L.A. Blues guitar great and member of The Blasters. Tim Bogert (R.I.P.)-Bass Guitar legend from Vanilla Fudge (who Led Zeppelin OPENED for), Cactus, Beck/Bogert & Appice (Tim did sound checks with Hendrix in his "Vanilla Fudge" days, cool!!) Bobby Gabrielle-core classroom instructor, Chuck Flores (R.I.P.) -Jazz/Big band great, Rich Garcia and Joey Heredia as Latin percussion instructors, Joe Porcaro/Ralph Razze-Technique instructors, Gary Garbatini, Fred Dinkins (my private lessons instructor), Gary Hess-Reading Instructor, Chuck Silverman (R.I.P.)-Summer course instructor (MI prep), Ed Roscetti-Electronic drum related applications and many more known and lesser known great teachers and players at the school in classroom/workshop/stage performance settings.
I graduated with "Honors" in September 1989 and started working with a 3 pc. Blues/Rock band, "The Homefries" in L.A. area clubs with a GIT grad...Daryl Boggs, Guitarist, and Bassist/Vocalist Niles Spolin, an L.A. native. I spent a total of 4 years out there. Auditioned in the early 90s for the owners of "The Mint", got hired and played their house party, and then held a steady Saturday night gig at "The Mint" in LA for a year (Basically, the house band as when we auditioned, we were hired on their opening weekend and they asked us to stay). We recorded a 4-song demo of the originals. Played a private party for "Rhino Records" execs and VIP guests from Hollywood. We were brought to David Geffen's attention by a VP at Capital Records. Unfortunately, this was also the time of Stevie Ray Vaughn's death, and Blues/Rock was taking a resulting downturn in popularity. During this time the Rodney King riots were also happening in LA and due to unforeseen circumstances, the band split up...tried out with a couple of different bands in LA as time went by but it was not to be.
…I decided to return to my roots. Being married now, we wanted to raise kids in NH, not LA!
After moving back to New Hampshire in 1993, I played in a "GB" band with the owner of a local music store, Mike Bilodeau (Strings and Things), doing weddings, events, and “Mt. Washington” boat weekly dinner dance cruise on Lake Winnipesaukee (I must say was very cool). Also did a short-lived blues/rock thing on the side with Mike. Worked with Mike Gallant, "Mikey G", in an open mic/jam night house band at the bar "Stormy Mondays" in Merrimack, NH (it's no longer there I believe). Eventually, I left as opportunities arose and worked with a 5 pc. rock/pop band "One Way Street". Worked a short (very short) time with Todd Bowie, a guitarist/tech with Joe Walsh (Eagles), Lindsey Buckingham (Fleetwood Mac), and Beck (Solo artist). FYI: Todd was also a guitarist with the local NH rock band from the '80s, "Toiz". He was creating his musical career in the Chicago area making it tough to play here in NH...so, more opportunities arose...I worked with the band "Tantrum", a 5 pc. rock band, "Hogmire" a 3 pc. rock band and a charity gig with the rock band “Sett”. Played in TWO bands recently, "Short Notice", a classic rock/pop cover/originals band and a recently formed, funky jam/rock originals band, "JAI" (Just an idea), now known as "The Shardz", with the very talented ex-members of "Jamantics", Freeland Hubbard (Guitar) and Eric Reingold (Bass) who opened up for "Little Feat" at the Hampton Beach Casino, along with another very talented mutual friend, Jonny Santana (Guitar). I played with local cover bands "Rockerbox" and "Evermore" for a short time. Things are coming back full circle... I worked with "Hogmire" for a while, again, featuring Sue Schott on vocals (Sue's husband, Rob Schott, is also a recent addition as another guitarist. A 5-piece again!). People have moved out of State, so, that band has dissolved although I do play with the remaining original members of "Hogmire" as a 3-piece.
With over 400 songs in my lifetime repertoire to draw from, with notice, I can woodshed any for a performance. PM or email me for my list. I'm always looking musically. I continue to "Jam" with friends and new people I meet. I'm available for fill-in/pick-up gigs and studio work!!!
Have a great day.
Peace, Love & Keep your knees in the breeze, the shiny side up & the rubber side down, and ALWAYS KEEP ROCKIN'!
