ABOUT

Adam R Sweet is a musician and music teacher, offering lessons and entertainment services to the Pioneer Valley and beyond. He is the director of the Mandolin Orchestra of South Hadley and co-founder of Celticado, The Americana Project and Fiddle Hill.
"Adam is a very imaginative music teacher in that he not only teaches the mechanics of how to play an instrument, but he also teaches the history of the instrument, the history of the music, the social aspects of the music and how to play different types of music. So students gain a broad understanding of the instrument and the music that they are playing. I believe that his offerings are a significant contribution to the culture of South Hadley."
~ Ben Levy Granby, MA
“The big thrill of playing in an orchestra is being in the middle of the sound,” said Sweet's student Will Melton, who plays mandola. He was a member of the Providence Mandolin Orchestra before moving to South Hadley. “Being in the middle of acoustic instruments, playing harmonies in split-second time — it’s a spiritual experience.”
~ Gena Mangiaratti, The Daily Hampshire Gazette

"Get a group of musicians playing mandolins at the same time and the result sounds like a “harpsichord from heaven,” according to multi-instrumentalist Adam Sweet, founder of the Mandolin Orchestra of South Hadley."
~ Ken Maiuri, The Daily Hampshire Gazette

"Hampshire College graduate Adam R. Sweet teaches mandolin and studied ethnomusicology at Hampshire. He is also a graduate of the Conservatory of Music at Rivers in Weston. Stay tuned… If Sweet has his way, there will be music in the air."
