The Atlantic Divide - White International Year: 2006 Album: With the Grace of Timebomb Genre: Alternative
Recorded in 2006 by The Atlantic Divide (aka Looming Lights, circa 2007-2008). Members: Michael Gallegly - vocals, guitar Joe Palacios - bass Jamie Motz - guitar, keyboards, vocals Adam Zeciri - drums The Atlantic Divide, from Chicago, got their start in early 2004 as a three-piece band with original drummer Fred Frey. There were no rules but to do what came naturally, letting fate play a role in defining their sound. The band played their first show at Subterranean in November 2004, after recording demo songs A Finer Line, You As A Chemical, Isolation Plea, and Depth Record at Million Yen Studios in Chicago. Througout 2005 their live shows continued to reveal that they had an immense sound for a band of only three people, and fans were quick to notice a variety of influences from bands like The Cure, The Catherine Wheel, Sunny Day Real Estate, The Smiths, and other related bands. Musically, it was obvious that these influences were helping shape something unique. As 2006 began, Fred left the group to play drums with another Chicago band, and Michael and Joe were left with some decisions about what to do, where to go, and how to get even closer to what they had always intended. Drummer Adam Zeciri was added, as well as guitarist and keyboardist Jamie Motz. Thrilled to finally be a four piece, the band reworked some older songs and realized that the new lineup was exactly what they had been looking for. There was a progression in their sound, and fans picked up on it immediately as the band played their first three shows in May and June. The band brings a perfect balance of intensity and subtlety to their live shows, at times soaring and atmospheric, other times hushed and emotive. Often haunting and dark, their songs and lyrics center around danger and romance, love and disaster, space travelers, spys, and explorers. Musically and lyrically, this all combines into a perfect formula for sticking to their natural instincts. The Atlantic Divide looks forward to playing in Chicago and around the Midwest, but above all are glad to have come out on the good side of a lineup change with bigger songs and ambitions.
