BIO:
A Great Day to Die” has been together since summer 2007. The band started when guitarist Hector Rodriguez, and drummer Jim Donovan were introduced by a mutual friend at a Heavy Metal bar in Brooklyn NY. The two talked music for a while, and decided to get together in the studio to see if anything worthwhile could come to fruition. After the initial studio session, it was clear that the two were on the same page, so they decided to take the next step in recruiting additional musicians to form a full band. Shortly after, they acquired the lead guitar talents of Michael Kontaras, and began writing numerous tracks. After the trio auditioned a number of bassists, and vocalists, they recruited bassist Jarod Barbuto, and vocalist Donnel Buttz and recorded their first self titled EP in the summer of 2008. They released the first demo, and performed at numerous New York venues. Subsequently, the band parted ways with Jarod and Donnel in winter of 2009, making way for the talents of bassist Steve Perlmutter, and vocalist Ryan Murphy. Since the line up change, the band has been performing all over the Tri-State area with bands such as The Absence, God Forbid, Mutiny Within, and Full Blown Chaos. They recorded their second EP titled "Zygote" at Little Door studios with producer Dave Andronico in 2012.
Each member of "A Great Day to Die" has extensive experience in the music industry. All have played numerous live shows, and have recording experience. Jim, Michael, and Steve were all members of the band VEXT, who after recording three EP's, were signed to Lakeshore Records, and recorded one LP. They have done nationwide touring with bands such as Candiria, Burnt by the Sun, and God Forbid, as well as playing numerous local shows with bands such as Shadows Fall, Biohazard, Ill Nino, Trivium, Evanescance, Every Time I Die, etc. Steve is also currently playing bass for the band STAR KILLER opening for national acts such as Ministry. Hector, formerly of LOCKED IN A VACANCY, and Ryan formerly of GRAIL have also recorded a number of EP's, toured, and played extensive local shows with bands such as Hatebreed, and In Flames.
"A Great Day to Die" is a combination of beauty, and brutality, speed complimented by groove, and creativity matched only by their dilligence. Music has been their life-blood, and Metal has forever been in their soul. They will never stop making Metal for their fans, and most of all, themselves.
