ABOUT
I was introduced to music at an early age through my father, who played the trumpet. My musical journey began at the age of 12 when I began taking trumpet lessons from Patricia Wilson. I enjoyed the lessons and music so much that I realized that my life would be a life of music. Over the years I continued my studies at Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, Maryland from 1971-1974. Being hungry for more knowledge of music, I applied and was accepted into the Berklee College of Music and majored in Music Composition from 1977-1979. Over the years, I had more lessons and now play the alto sax, various percussion instruments and piano. During the years I have taught music and had the pleasure of playing with many renowned musicians including; Mickey Fields, Donald Lane and other jazz musicians in the Baltimore area. I recently sat in and played percussion with Ezra Brown, a world renowned musician.
In 1980, I decided to move to Los Angeles to expand upon my music career. I spent much time composing original songs and was fortunate to meet and work for Dick Griffy Productions. I decided to return back to my home state of Maryland and continued to send my originals to advertising agencies. PNA Advertising Media used several of my compositions as backgrounds in commercials for Charles Nusinov & Sons Jewelers, Gage Men's Clothing, and New Market Place in downtown inner harbor Baltimore, Maryland. This arrangement continued from 2000 until 2009.
I am currently seeking to share my love of music with people of all ages that are interested in becoming musicians and wish to learn the music business. As a musician, I currently play on Sundays for the band at my church, but am also seeking to expand and play with bands in Florence, SC; Sumter, SC; Columbia, SC; Charleston, SC and Lake City, SC areas. I can play all the instruments listed above, but would prefer playing percussion. I am available to play and teach almost anytime, so please contact me if interested. Also, take a listen to my songs, as all of these are written and performed by me.
My greatest passion in life is to share my love of music and the joy it brings to others! Contact # 803-459-7937 or lashawjazz3
