When you get old, you don’t have to stop living!
Band of Romeos was the brain child of Alex Narbut. He wanted to touch on the life experiences that many “mature” individuals have or will encounter. The idea was to form a band of seniors (the youngest on the recording is 63) to create new music which is in vogue for today and crosses all genres but does sound like oldies created or played by geezers. With the help of a 70s band mate, Eddie D, mission accomplished. Romeos stands for “Retired Old Men Eating Out” and the first album is appropriately called “Early Bird Special.” If you don’t get it, wait, you eventually will.
The songs all have different meanings. The title song, “Band of Romeos,” depicts a retrospective of days gone by and the activities of many seniors today (“that’s what we do”). “We’re Talking About Trouble” tells a story of working colleagues who think they are in love but their relationship winds up destroying their home lives. When the majority of years are in the back mirror, seniors get concerned about the future and what it will bring. “Walking With Jesus” represents a view point of addressing personal concerns and changing self-beliefs. What can you say about “Dirty Old Man,” but “…there’s no time for romance and no time for holding hands.”
