i! I'm looking for some nyc area musicians who enjoy "rocking out" to the classics, e.g. Bach, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Sibelius, "Rock"maninov (sorry), Grieg, etc. I'm looking for some musicians who might be interested in starting a band or small chamber group that would play cool arrangements of classical music, or possibly some of our own instrumental compositions. While I would insist on high artistic merit and musicianship, I want to create a fun, laid back atmosphere at our shows and would want to be fully amplified so that the audience could feel free to get into the music more than at a traditional classical show. I want to make people who hear us really love the music and want to hear more.

I put together a few sample "experiments" at the following link. I think they give a good idea of the sound and style I'm going for. I have a few more sample scores which can be easily tweaked a bit to get us started.

I'm flexible about the instrumentation so if you play any instrument and want to join in, please respond! Strings, Winds, Brass, Drummers/Percussionists and Electric Guitars/Bassists! Anyone interested should be proficient at reading music. Players proficient in arranging/reorchestrating music and composing some of their own charts would be ideal but definitely not required.

You should have a generally flexible schedule. You also need to be responsible and not a flake. I think we would aim for 2-3 rehearsals a month, probably on Sunday afternoons or evenings but would be flexible if other evenings are better.

If you're interested, send me a short description of your background and what ideas you might bring to this kind of project. I'm currently based in southern Westchester but I work in the city and I'm flexible as to where we would rehearse. I put Manhattan for the central location. We can rehearse there or anywhere else convenient to people.
