ABOUT

The Black Velvet Band is the Boston area’s premier dance and show band for Irish and American music, playing a huge variety of great music, taking requests, engaging the audience, and creating lasting memories. Our reputation throughout the area is best illustrated by dozens of repeat clients, some for over 25 years.
Our general playlist features all sorts of Irish music - lively rebel tunes, beautiful waltzes from every county, songs for everyone to sing or participate, and ballads that tell the story of Ireland’s people, emigration and history. We also play a wide range of classic oldies from the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, a range from Sinatra to the Stones to Springsteen to Smashmouth, and lots in between. Influences

We would love to welcome an experienced lead guitarist or keyboard/piano/accordion player, who can help us expand our non-Irish repertoire with their contributions of rock, classic rock, first-wave, alternative, and/or originals. We want to learn new music to make us even more marketable, and hopefully you’ll slowly learn some of our Irish set. Backup and some lead vocals would be a big plus. Our musical emphasis is that it’s something people will want to dance to.

Members Of Band

The Black Velvet Band performs as a single to full 6-piece band. In March, we play about 20 gigs, but through the rest of the year, we average 1-3 jobs a month. We are not looking to play every weekend, but would like to build some consistency of work throughout the year. Though we don’t play a lot of bars and clubs due to the pay, we’re open to the right opportunities. We actively seek work both North and South of Boston, and may on occasion travel to NH, the Cape, and Worcester.

EQUIPMENT

You bring your instrument and amplification, we’ve got the rest. The only other equipment is a good attitude and ability to be part of a band ensemble.
