ABOUT

Ayllupura is a South American, Andean folk music ensemble founded by David Arancibia in January 2010, composed of a group of close friends with extensive musical backgrounds interested in sharing their culture and musical heritage. During its initial phase their popularity grew locally allowing them to introduce their music to many cultural celebrations and art festivals along the Wasatch front.

Today, Ayllupura continues to gain recognition, and to inspire listeners everywhere they perform. Their music can be described as a natural and harmonious blend of ancient traditional string, wind, percussion, and especial effect instruments. Among the string instruments we find the Charango, Ronrroco, Tiple, Cuatro, and classical guitar. The wind instruments include a large variety of ancient bamboo flutes named Sanka, Malta, Ika, and Toyos; and the Quena, Quenacho, Moseño, and Tarkas, to mention a few. The percussion and especial effect instruments are essential in this genre of music because they represent the sounds of nature revered by the natives. With these instruments Ayllupura can recreate the sound of the rain, water, wind, and animal life.

In the Quechua language the name Ayllupura means “members of the same community” representing the musical harmony and geographical diversity found in its members. The current members of Ayllupura come from Chile, Bolivia, and Mexico.
