Bad Little Mikey

Band to Join.

I've been playing in bands since I was a teenager. Currently playing upright bass with a Bluegrass band a Hawaiian band. Looking to work with highly talented musicians who share similar taste. I would like to to play bass guitar in a rock band, or upright bass in some sort of acoustic band.

My philosophy of bass playing is to fill out the bottom and keep a steady beat. I play a fretless bass with flat wound strings, it's pretty greasy and I like to mumble around. Not a soloist, I prefer to blend in.

I almost forgot to mention I'm a pretty good backing vocalist. I can also do lead vocals if the bass line is easy.

I grew up listening to top 40 radio in the 60s and 70s. As a teenager I was into Grand Funk, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Joe Cocker, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Cream, etc. I also loved the Blues. Howlin Wolf, BB King, Muddy Waters, Johnny Littlejohn, Homesick James, Big Walter Horton.
Around age 30 I started listening to John Prine, Neil Young, Steve Goodman, The Weavers, Peter Paul & Mary and other folk music. I eventually started listening to Bluegrass, which led me down a much darker path in search of old-time country music. In turn this led me into other stuff from that era, like jug bands, early jazz, riverboat music, cowboy stuff.
Somewhere along the way I learned to love Western Swing and classic country music, as well as jazz ballads from the 30s, 40s and 50s. This and the early Rock & Roll from people like Louis Jordan and Chuck Berry.
Did I mention Country? Hank Williams is at the top of my list, followed by Buck Owens, Johnny Cash and other popular artists from that era.
