ABOUT

Rich Spang grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan in the 1950s, 60s and 70s. I played violin in Jr High, First chair but changed to guitar when listening to rock on my crystal radio. Walk Don’t Run my first tune I think. My first band was a soul group in 1967 when I first picked up the bass, a Mossrite then a Fender Mustang. In the late 60s I played with Texas Bob and the Tennessee Ramblers, mostly rock, blues and a little country with my Precision bass playing frat parties and weddings. In the 70s I found Sojourner Wolf’s Cathouse Band, a masterful group of 7 talented and creative musicians. We played before over 10,000 people in the Ann Arbor Peoples Free Concerts in the 70s and I sat in with blues greats at The Blind Pig, including Jimmy Walker, Luther Allison, Boogie Woogie Red and John Nicolas. We played throughout the midwest for 5 years our original rock, blues, jazz, country and world music before it had that name. The later 70s I played clubs with the Flamingo Motel and my Rickenbacker. In the 80s and 90s I took a hiatus from music to pursue other creative passions. Moved to Los Angeles then Seattle where I am a network engineer for Seattle Childrens Hospital. I started my music again around 2003, currently playing a Lakland bass, then meeting Jim and Billy in the Randy Bradley Band when we broke off to form The Rockets in 2010 to play a little rock and roll.
