ABOUT

Hi, I'm a bass player with varied musical interests, looking for creative musicians to make good music, have fun and gig. I like a variety of rock, blues, jazz, bluegrass and Americana and like to keep learning new music and playing with interesting people.

I recently joined Purple Albatross, a rocking five piece band from Berkeley that prides itself on tight arrangements of danceable classic rock and soul, peppered with deep tracks and originals. We gig regularly throughout the East Bay.

I am also in Bad Doctor (formerly Two Flights Up), a fun, six-piece multi-generational rock cover band. Four of the musicians sing, so we are able to cover a wide variety of music from the mid-60s to present.

I have also been playing jazz with friends in Berkeley a couple times a month for 8 years. We play occasional gigs in the East Bay - mostly bebop, swing and Latin tunes made famous by John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, Stanley Turrentine, Cannonball Adderley, Art Blakey, etc.

I was in Jukebox 50, a country / surf / oldies band from 2018-2020. We gigged occasionally, playing current and classic songs across genres.

For two years (2017-18), I played in a fun Motown and R&B band, In the Groove, that gigged 1-2 times/month.

From 2015-17, I was in Blameless (formerly Up The Creek), a Walnut Creek cover band that played up tempo rock, especially from the 80s.

In 2016-17, I was in the Contra Costa Jazz Band, a 17-piece big band, playing swing and Latin jazz from the '40s through the '60s.

In the summer of 2015, I played a half dozen gigs with Shades of Hay, a Steve Sage band that played "eclectic acoustic" music while their bassist was on the mend. One of our most memorable gigs was playing in front of about 1,000 people at the Todos Santos concert in the park series.

I am fully vaxxed and boosted and look forward to playing with like-minded musicians.

Influences

I'm always on the lookout for a band that plays music in the style of Tedeschi Trucks Band, Derek and the Dominos, Jefferson Airplane, Little Feat, etc. (on bass).

In addition, a long-term goal is to join or form an Americana band. I still have a lot of work to do on mandolin and pedal steel to get to that point, but it's a fun challenge. Bands I've been listening to lately include Margo Price, Billy Strings, Amanda Anne Platt & The Honeycutters, Margo Cilker, Sarah Shook & the Disarmers, Lukas Nelson / Promise of the Real, Tyler Childers, Chris Thile / Punch Brothers, Hot Buttered Rum, American Aquarium, Watkins Family Hour, Mandolin Orange / Watchhouse and many more.

Other influences include New Riders of the Purple Sage, Joni Mitchell, Del McCoury, David Grisman, Neil Young, Hot Tuna, Commander Cody, etc.
