Big Maf was born in Upstate, New York, but raised in Brooklyn. At the age of around thirteen, he relocated to the Newark/Irvington area…two of the most notorious cities in New Jersey. As a young teen, he was considered a double threat by being able to sing and rap, which was something that many could not do. During most of his teenage years, he spent countless hours in lyrical combat on the corners of Avon and Chancellor Avenue in Newark, New Jersey.
In school, Maf participated in many talent shows and was often the last man standing at Hip Hop battles...destroying all contenders. He also performed at some of the prominent nightclubs in New York, Philadelphia and New Jersey. As a true Jersey Representa, Maf is known throughout the tri-state area as the "hottest rapper with a reggae style flow”. His music is a collage of Hip-Hop, singing, and Reggae music. A Haitian type of music called Kompa also influences his production. Kompa is best described as jazzy, hip, party anthems, and definitely has that Caribbean flavor to fulfill its core. By the age of sixteen, Maf along with two friends, Samson a.k.a German and Lenard a.k.a. Russian, formed a Rap/Reggae group called the Culture Posse. They put out the single "For Real" under a label called Cutting Records, which was based in the Bronx area. They toured in venues throughout the United States. After the hit, the group disbanded and Maf decided to go solo. Briefly, he began his connection with Wyclef Jean, Lauren Hill, and Prazwel who are better known as the multi-platinum Fugees. Maf soon became a prominent member of Clef's Refugee Camp. He toured with the Group and made a guest appearance on the Fugees record setting album, The Score. Maf is now using his prolific lyrical skills along with his production prowess to deliver great music to the world. His dream is to fulfill his destiny by putting out good and quality music that he hopes to make a difference in people's lives. Maf is that kid everybody heard but never met! Maf is currently doing local shows, while working on his breakthrough studio album. His style is original and he delivers real authentic materials.
