ABOUT

I am considered a good drummer but am really a hobbyist drummer. I have never played with a full time band due to my corporate career but I have jammed with some great rock and jazz musicians over the years. I am recently semi-retired and looking to jam with like minded musicians to start with. This could develop into starting or joining a band but right now I am looking to just jam with some likeminded musicians.

By jam I mean for say lead guitar, bass, rhythm guitar, keyboards and maybe a vocalist to get together and someone starts a theme. It could be the chorus of a popular song or some other motif. The other musicians improvise to the theme and try to push the limits of their respective abilities without falling apart. I have lived in Shreveport for eleven years but lived in Dallas for twenty five years where I joined a group of musicians several times to do this. Super fun and sometimes we were surprised at what we came up with.

I do not know if there are musicians here in the Shreveport Bossier area interested in this but it will be fun to find out. Thanks for reading.

Music I would like to play include, but not limited to, some of the crowd pleasers of Bruce Springsteen. Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac, Phil Collins, Dire Straits, Yes, Michael Jackson, Kate Bush, and others the other members of the group or band would like to play. As long as a song is in 4/4 I can learn it most probably or at least play it adequately while not hitting every note of the original drummer on the song.

I know not a popular thing to say in our area but I am not particularly fond of blues or country music. Just not my thing although I think Brad Paisley is fantastic. Maybe there are other country artists I could be introduced to.

Influences

Rock, Classic Rock and Progressive Rock. Also I love Kate Bush who is referred to as Art Rock. Drummers who have strongly influenced me are Bill Bruford of Yes and King Crimson, Simon Philips, Billy Cobham, Mitch Mitchell of Jimi Hendrix, Todd Sucherman of Stix. Recently Troy Wright of Plini and Animals as Leaders has really influenced me trying to play in odd time signatures. Of course Keith Moon, Mitch Mitchell and the main drummer for Jethro Tull (can't recall his name) greatly influenced me. I am developing odd time signatures so this is a work in progress as of February 2020. I am a member of Drumeo Edge and listen to a lot of the world class drummers they have live streaming every day.
