ABOUT

Born in New York City in 1966, Bill Motzing holds an Associate Diploma in Jazz Studies as a performance major and has completed the Drummers Collective Certificate Program in New York City. A second-generation musician, both his parents were professional musicians with his father being award-winning film composer and conductor William Motzing.

Bill has been the driving force behind many jazz, pop, and rock projects. These have included live television performances, studio recordings and performing across Australia with singer/songwriter Billy Field. Bill played drums in the Sydney production of the rock musical The Hunting of the Snark under the musical direction of English singer/songwriter Mike Batt (original cast included Roger Daltry and Cliff Richard). He is the drummer on the initial 2 albums released on the rooArt label by fusion guitarist Carl Orr (Billy Cobham band) and supported the legendary Jazz vocalist Nancy Wilson as the resident drummer at Hayman Island Resort.

As well as performing with these groups, Bill was a member of the funk band The Second Step, an important part of New York City's live music scene in the 2000s, appearing at clubs such as Wetlands, Mercury Lounge and CBGB Gallery.
