The Highways Child
The Highways ChildAutobiographical - Love that late 60s early 70s country rock sound... www.BillLiscomb.com THE HIGHWAY’S CHILD I was a little kid in the back seat of that ‘ol blue Ford sedan Couldn’t see much outside ‘cept for that big western sky Daddy got me a decal of every state that we drove thru Readin’ Burma Shave signs, and singin’ songs on the radio Every day we’d drive and drive, from when the sun came up Until it went back down I’ve always been the highway child Longin’ for the open road There’s only one place for a highway child And that’s rollin’ down the open road I’ve always been a highway child Now I’ve lost track of all the trips I’ve made since then But I remember the cars I drove, who was with me, and the places that I been Memories are like the roadside ruins on an old highway Where the walls are barely standing and everything else has gone away I want to go back there with all my heart I’d leave right now if I could I’ll always be the highway’s child Longin’ for the open road There’s only one place for the highway’s child And that’s rollin’ down the open road I’ll always be the highway’s child Longin’ for the open road Always be the highway’s child Longin’ for, longin’ for the open road
Ride All Night
Ride All NightThink I had a dream after watching Sons of Anarchy and Ghost Hunters... www.BillLiscomb.com RIDE ALL NIGHT The boys and me pulled into town, lookin’ for a place to unwind At the end of a long hard ride Shots rang out beside me, I felt no pain, and had no fear The sound of death still ringing in my ears I ride all night, the stars above will guide me I close my eyes, and I see you again Ride all night, faster than the wind In the early light, I’ll hold you, again, in my arms We rode away into the night, and darkness swallowed my soul Into the stillness of the desert at night I still think about the face of that boy that I watched die I cried to myself, that can’t be me I ride all night, the stars above will guide me I close my eyes, and I see you again Ride all night, faster than the wind In the early light, I’ll hold you, again, in my arms In the quiet hush of twilight, again and again I start to ride Out of the ashes and dust where I died They say I am a phantom, my body dead, but not my soul And my love for you will never die So I ride all night, the stars are all around me I close my eyes, and I see you again Ride all night, faster than the wind I gave up my life, to hold you, again, in my arms
Time In Hell
Time In HellThis is about a political as my songwriting gets... www.BillLiscomb.com Time In Hell There's a city boy, he signed his name to a deal with Uncle Sam They cut his hair, taught him how to kill, and sent him off to a strange land He saw things and did things there that haunt him to this day Back then it didn't really matter to him, he just did everything they said He can't talk about a story he can't tell He lives it every day, with all the sights and smells Keeps his secrets hidden in a box beneath his bed Pictures of his time in hell There's a country boy, livin' in the city, been years since he left the farm He barely made it back from shootin' smack thru a needle in his arm He cleaned up his act, put on his big boy pants and make his dreams come true Got a job, a wife and kids, and looks just like me and you Not afraid to talk about exactly what he's done Reaches in his darkness and pulls out the sun Day by day one by one he's helpin' folks get well With stories of his time in hell He's a man of the world, now it's his turn to show you who he really is Don't matter to him how he gets what he gets as long as he gets his Don't care about your tomorrow, wants it all right now Got no respect for what our fathers did with the sword and the plow. The driver drops him off beside his jet There's stories in the news about what he's gonna be doing next He says, "I'm only doing what I do so well." Hope you all enjoy your time in hell Time in hell Heh Heh Heh….
New Cripple Creek
New Cripple CreekYou never can go back home.... www.BillLiscomb.com New Cripple Creek Grandaddy was a miner in a gold rush town The casino came in, tore his old house down The field where me and his dog used to play Is where they park their cars and gamble all day Oh, Cripple Creek, Cripple Creek I came here lookin’ for my old friends They’re as long gone as yesterdays’ wind I saw an old man watchin’ cars drive by Yeah, it’s a ghost town now, we all had our times I found out my life is made of time Can’t turn it back but I had to give it a try Chorus Gassed up my car and got ready to go Get outta the Rockies before the snow I gave up lookin' for my Cripple Creek girl And I said goodbye to my Cripple Creek world Chorus Chorus
I WonderOff my new CD Reckless Destiny - www.BillLiscomb.com I Wonder She's sleeping right beside me, we're driving to the risin' sun Don't matter how far we been yet today, only matters when the day is done Stop to take a break, play my guitar to the wind California's so far behind me, it's just another place I've been I wonder, will I ever go there again Wonder, if I'll ever go there again Might a been that place on a mesa deep in New Mexico Could a been a double rainbow, way up in Colorado Or lost on a two-lane highway, back before the interstate came Praying out loud to stay awake and keep it in the my lane I wonder, will I ever go there again Wonderin', if I'll ever go there again Just can't tell any more if I've been gone for days or years It's like being in a time machine, I'm just sittin' here One more day of driving, then I'll be home I've forgotten how many behind me, don't know how many more to go I wonder, will I ever go there again Wonderin', if I'll ever go there again I wonder, will I ever go there again Wonderin', if I'll ever go there again

The Better LIfe
The Better LIfeThis is the story you don't ever see covered in the press. Happens all the time. From my new CD "Reckless Destiny" www.BillLiscomb.com The Better Life In a quiet village, deep in Mexico, two young lovers start their lives Not much hope for their future there, they'd be lucky to simply survive They knew about all the riches to the north, they paid a man to take them there As they climbed into the secret compartment in his truck, the girl whispered she was scared Lay down here beside me, my love, I will hold you tight We'll ride across the desert tonight, and tomorrow we will start the better life, the better life The driver stopped and ordered them out, miles and miles from anywhere They had no money, no water to drink, then he sped off and left them there He'd promised them all the wishes they could dream, and they believed his every word As they stagered across the burning desert sand, the boy turned to her and said Lay down here beside me, my love, and close your eyes take my hand and we'll ride the desert wind to the better life, to the better life
Hang AroundOff new CD "Reckless Destiny" www.BillLiscomb.com HANG AROUND I got an apartment on the side of town Where people who don't fit in anywhere settle down Don't like my job, but it gets me what I need Sometimes I lie awake at night thinkin' 'bout what I could've been Down here, we're all alone together, there's always someone around We all lead simple lives, we hang around I sorta know this girl, my God, you should see her smile She's a driver for the car parts store, and stops by once in a while We go and hit the bars, end up back here I might have told her I love her once, but I'd drank an awful lot of beer We'll lay there quiet in the darkness; I feel her breath on my skin Then she's gone without a sound, she doesn't want to hang around That's my life and how I live it I don't want much more than that I got nowhere else to go, guess I'll just hang around
Truck Drivin' Girl
Truck Drivin' GirlFalling in love, analog style... www.BillLiscomb.com TRUCK DRIVING GIRL There’s a café at the edge of town where truckers stop if they can get slowed down ya see, it sits on the inside of a big blind curve I go out there every once in a while it’s good food, and it's served with a smile let me tell you what happened one time I went there Someone cut off a truck as it slowed down the tires locked up and smoke poured out looked like it was gonna jackknife or roll But the driver caught it in the blink of an eye parked that rig and came inside and that driver was the prettiest girl I’ve ever seen She sat down beside me like I wasn’t even there She had big green eyes and long red hair We started talkin’, my heart just thumpin’ away I knew right then I’d fall in love with the truck drivin’ girl That I’d fall in love with the truck drivin’ girl I often think about that day how she finished her food and just drove away I was kickin’ myself ‘cause I didn’t get her name So I’d go out there every chance I could ‘cause in a town like this, the odds aren’t good for a boy like me, to find a girl like her I was driving home really late one night my car just stopped, so I turned out the lights bundled up good, bedded down in the back Something woke me up at the crack of dawn a semi had stopped and then I saw the driver was the prettiest girl I’ve ever seen Now I'm ridin' right beside her, and I’m tryin’ not to stare At her big green eyes and long red hair We started talkin’, now I know her name Sure enough I fell in love with the truck drivin’ girl I fell in love with the truck drivin’ girl Yeah, I fell in love with the truck drivin’ girl
Judgement DayRockin' story song about bad life decisions. www.BillLiscomb.com for the whole story. Stellar electric guitar solo from SupremeTracks.com Judgment Day Kenny was a carpenter, worked hard all his life Donna was his lady, she was a waitress, but not his wife Work was hard to come by, so for something easy to do He started runnin’ con games on some old folks that he knew Kenny liked them old folks, they were easy prey He set ‘em up, an' knocked ‘em down and split for Monterey Now his lawyer is sittin’ at the table Tellin’ him exactly what to say Kenny knew there’d be hell to pay Always is on judgment day Always is on judgment day Kenny never changed, they always tracked him down Donna decided to cut her losses and slipped on outta town He kept right on a-runnin’, but he never got too far Couldn’t get away from missing her, couldn’t get away from the law Found him in a motel room face down in a pool of blood The long end of a knife stopped his runnin’ days for good Now the devil’s sittin’ on his shoulder St. Peter’s lookin’ the other way Kenny knew there’d be hell to pay Always is on judgment day Always is on judgment day
