ABOUT

I'm looking to put something together and find some weekend gigs.
There is no category on here for this but I am a "songwriter" as well.

It all started in Indiana, with the Beatles when I was 11. I knew I wanted to play music after that.
With my family being musically inclined I had access to a guitar with no problem.
Once I convinced my parents that I was serious, I took 3 guitar lessons and decided it was moving too slow, so I used every other source I could to teach myself guitar besides the cowboy chords my mother had shown me.
Anyway “fast forward 2 years” and I’m playing in a band at 13. Our first gig was an outside Putt-Putt Course…and It Paid!! We made $50 between 3 of us…That was BIG money back then.
Played with many musicians along the way, but by around 18, I was in a band I named “Green Iris” (guitar, bass, keyboards, drums and lead singer)We played outdoor events and nightclubs. We did a couple of original tunes but mostly cover tunes. Three and Four Nights a week, paying gigs… This was Awesome but as with a lot of bands, things happened and we split up, although me and the bass player George stayed together and created another band called “Raven”. Same type of music…Cover band stuff. Me and George would hang over in a friend’s basement and play some good blues….but sadly we didn’t play it in the bars.
One night while playing, our band was approached by a United Artist Talent scout that asked us to be the opening act for the Three Dog Night, doing some original Paul Williams songs. Not sure how it happened back then but someone in the band, took it upon themselves to turn it down, waiting on a better offer. Don’t remember who……But anyway!!
The next band I founded was a simple 3 piece acoustic lounge band called John and George (a different George). We played and gigged for about 2 years or so and this band broke up as well. So I found some other band members and formed a progressive Rock /jazz band, for the most part, also doing cover tunes. Went on the road for a couple months, then came back and disband.
I laid it down for a while and just started writing songs……Moved to Texas, and continued writing songs playing acoustic and havin fun.
Fell in love with the Blues all over again….BUT…. I became a gun for hire, playing in bands that needed a lead guitarist. It was ok, but still not doing what I wanted to do. So I hung it up again and opened a Comic book store in about 2001, which has become very successful in Austin TX. Capstone Comics! However…about 2 years ago I started really getting the itch to play again…really bad…..which brings me to where I am now. I am in the process of putting a blues band together, playing what I want to play and laying down some recordings.
It’s all a journey, really. So here I am…and here I come!!!
