About The Project
I'm a songwriter, guitarist, and singer with several years experience playing in punk, emo, indie rock, indie folk bands. I'm new to Southern California and I'm trying to get a new thing going. I already have a lot of original material written and ready to start working.
The grand vision is to have a sort of indie rock symphony along the lines of Bon Iver, Arcade Fire, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, Sufjan Stevens, or Broken Social Scene. You can listen to the demos and judge for yourself, but my musical style might be better compared to a band like Of Monsters and Men. Equal parts smart, fun, sincere, passionate, and beauftiful. Not afraid of genre-bending and guided by a pretty positive outlook while maintaining a healthy relationship with the darker side of life.
Phase 1 is to find the right partner in crime. I'm looking for a girl who can sing. If you play an instrument, too, that's great... but mainly I need a singer to do harmonies, alternate singing lead, and maybe do some call-and-response interplay. I want someone to be the face of the band with me. We'll start out playing stripped-down versions and gradually build up the rest of the band.
The ideal person would be in the range of 21 to 30 years old, with possible exceptions. I'm looking for a bit of punk rock DIY ethic here. Not just because it's a startup project, but because that is my approach to music. I'm not promising you fame and fortune. If it worked out to do this for a living while maintaining some sanity then yes, I'm down for that... but the first priority is to create something beautiful and awesome. You should be on the same page.
If you listen to the demos and play one of the other instruments, please get in touch. It might even work out to where we could get a larger core of the band going early, but I will keep in touch with interested players throughout the process.
I'm easy-going, respectful, politically liberal, non-religious. I like alcohol but I drink responsibly. I don't smoke and I don't do drugs. That isn't really a moral thing for me and I harbor no judgments if you partake. I would just expect you to be cool and primarily not get fu*ked up right before shows. I'm straight but LGBT-friendly. Profanity is likely to be heard, sometimes in songs. Some song content may explore sensitive issues like the loss of faith.
I'm telling you all that because when you are in a band you spend a lot of time together. Even moreso if you are on tour. In my opinion, the choice of bandmates is only slightly less important than a romantic partner. It is awesome when you are true friends, and it SUCKS when you don't get along. I look at a band as family.
Ultimately, the music is what matters most. If it's good we will all have fun. If it's good we will get shows and make records. It might even get you laid! (Again, no promises.) I could bore you with a list of all my favorite hipster bands, but really you just want to know what I can do. I've loaded some stuff onto for your listening pleasure. I have a group of songs that I fleshed out with all the band parts and a set of songs that are just raw acoustic. If you feel saucy, you can even download the acoustic ones, add something to it, and send it back to me. Collaboration = Fun times!
