Band to Join.

ABOUT

NEW, NEW, NEW!!! Current as of DECEMBER 2015!!!

Fender Bass Player in Hesperia, willing to selectively travel in the High Desert or to the Inland Empire, is looking for working bands with gigs to join up. Let's have fun and watch people dance!!! I love a down and dirty groove (ala SRV) but there is always a time and place for something more easy-going and mellow.

I graduated from Berklee in 1989. I can do the 16th note finger funk, the blues, boogie, swing, jazz, latin, rock. I can follow the dots but prefer real book style chord charts.

If your music will support a lyrical, unpredictable but feel good, groove style of playing, let's talk.

Let's save each other some time and let me also say that if you're looking for a steady, rock solid, pick thumper or thumb slapper, my playing will not be for you.

Also, I do not do bass gymnastics or religious affiliations.

Influences

As a Bass Player, for me, it all begins and ends with Motown. James Jamerson brought the Fender Electric Bass to the forefront of modern music. His integration of jazz theory and syncopated rhythms combined with Leo Fender's Precision instrument paved the way for the Electric Bass to be not just an instrument to be felt but also to be heard! Counter melodies and voice leading became as much to a Bass Player's arsenal as down-home dirty grooves. When Jamerson plays, it FEELS like a bass. George Clinton calls it: Fender Bassing.

However, to give due credit, I owe a lot to Phil Lesh. Phil has been the source of endless joy for his bouncy, angular lines and uncanny improvisational intuition. Both Jamerson and Lesh came from jazz and classical composition backrounds. But while Jamerson's playing feels like a bass, Lesh's playing sounds like the left-hand of a classical counterpoint. Totally different styles but then again, not so different.

Oh, and BTW: Asleep at the Wheel is by far the greatest live dance band. ever!!!
