I'm Cara Jane Sadler of Tennessee Stiffs, a 4 piece Austin group. Our music pulls from many genres(Folk, Country, Blues, Gypsy and more...) into something we affectionately call Death Folk. We have a plethra of original tunes and have developed a very organic way of writing. A Minnesota girl married a Texas boy and came together to pioneer music both fresh and familiar. Late night writing sessions soaked in whiskey gave the loving duo a sound all their own. Cara’s melodies range from hauntingly beautiful to wildly soulful. Blended with Lee’s foot-stomping rhythms and gravelly vocals, the two take the “Beauty and the Beast” standard to heart.
The music is rounded out by wild storylines and unforgettable melody hooks. We are a full band consisting of guitar, mandolin, bass and drums and are all vocalists.

Backwater Lullaby"Backwater Lullaby" is the first track off of Tennessee Stiffs' new album, "Thirty Pieces." This stompy, hook-filled tune burrows into your head and makes a home. The tune follows a less-than-reputable man who finds his misdeeds catching up with him. Chock-full of memorable lyrics and catchy melodies, you'll be singing this one for days.
The Boogeyman"The Boogeyman" is a track from Tennessee Stiffs' new album, "Thirty Pieces," and features the true story of a real life monster. The dark subject matter framed in the context of a children's story makes this tune relatable in a terrifying manner.
Cocaine Lover"Cocaine Lover" is one of the more soulful, searing tunes from Tennessee Stiffs' new album, "Thirty Pieces." It features frontlady Cara B's soaring vocals and a subject matter that is far more than it seems. A woman decides that the frantic lifestyle in which she finds herself is too much to bear, relating her situation to that of a drug addict.
Thirty Pieces"Thirty Pieces" is the titular track from Tennessee Stiffs' new album. Legend has it that, when one dies, he has to pay Charon the Ferryman for safe passage across the River Styx. Thirty pieces of silver is the fare. The man in this song has decided to gamble his thirty pieces and see how many people he can take with him across the river.
Come Along Easy
Come Along Easy"Come Along Easy" is a killer track from Tennessee Stiffs' new album, "Thirty Pieces." A man finds himself in a dingy dive bar hitting on the less than reputable ladies found therein. There's a whole layer of subtext that the band won't tell you about, unless you ask. Listen intently and see if you can find all the hidden meaning in the song.
Maggie's Song"Maggie's Song" is a long-time-coming track from Tennessee Stiffs, and the song that national and international audiences are clamoring over. The upbeat tempo, sweet subject matter, and hooky melodies will have this song stuck in your head for days.
Broken Down & Blue
Broken Down & BlueEveryone has tried to write the perfect country and western song. The Stiffs have thrown their hat in the ring with this tune, "Broken Down & Blue" from their new album, "Thirty Pieces." A classic country waltz sets the mood for this tune, which follows the man who can be found at any dive bar regaling his stoolmates with stories and anecdotes that make you laugh, cry, and want to buy that man a drink.
Waiting To Collide (Reprise)
Waiting To Collide (Reprise)The breakout hit from the Stiffs' first album gets a face-lift in this, the recut and remastered version of "Waiting to Collide". A favorite amongst Stiffies, this tune tells the story of a man who is at his wit's end and ready to make people pay. However, there are consequences for his actions, and "absolution don't come easy to these dirty hands." Hear the track that took Texas radio and Europe by storm!
UndercurrentThe last track on Tennessee Stiffs' new album, "Thirty Pieces," is a tune that finds a man at the end of a long journey and the realizations that one has when confronted with their own mortality. A driving, stomp-filled rhythm and catchy guitar riffs made this a decidedly Stiff track.
Hightail"Hightail" is a rockin' track from Tennessee Stiffs' debut album, "Nightery", that showcases the searing musical prowess of the band. Coupled with the cheerful, upbeat tempo and swingy rhythm, this tune will be stuck in your head for days.
Slow Down Dave
Slow Down Dave"Slow Down Dave" is a track from the Stiffs' first album, "Nightery." It's a song about lead vocalist/mandolinist Cara's father. He's quite the character, a man that everyone would be lucky to meet. For the record, "slow down Dave" just sounded cool and is in no way a plea for our dear Dave to actually slow down. Carry on, Dave.
Ishmael"Ishmael" is a track from Tennessee Stiffs' first album, "Nightery." If you've ever read Moby Dick, you should have no trouble singing along. If not, just follow the hooks!
