I am an intermediate keyboard player off and on with some music theory which include use of the 1-4-5 chord progression so when I find the key I normally follow in that order unless we're working with a jazz piece and using the 2-5-1 progression, otherwise I need to know the key and the progression and it's on. I love music, it takes time to train your ear to find the key and usually I can find the key and where we go from there, who knows because there are so many options other than I-IV-V or ii-V-I.
