BIO FROM AUSTIN SCHOOL OF MUSIC
"Arriving in Austin from New England in 1982, Chris Bennett already possessed an extensive backlog of musical experience in touring bands playing rock, R&B and jazz throughout the mid to late 70s. In Austin, he was able to broaden the experiences, playing TV, radio shows, theater musicals, and doing studio work, including musical experiences that in his words “defy description”. His teachers have included Jim Chapin (Moeller technique), Ed Soph, Mike Clark, and Johnny Vidacovich.
In 1993, Chris was chosen “Outstanding Jazz Musician” at Southwest Texas Jazz Festival. He continued through the 90s playing jazz, R&B, and latin with a host of local luminaries, including many of the teachers at the Austin School of Music. He recently published three articles in the premier vintage drum magazines Classic Drummer and Not So Modern Drummer.
In 2006, Chris started Bopworks Drumsticks - a company specializing in drum sticks designed specifically for jazz drummers.
Chris began teaching full time in 1998, and considers teaching and playing to be equally fulfilling. He continues to play regularly with local bands in the Austin area."
