ABOUT

Back in the early 1980s, I remember sitting on the lawn of the Greensburg Garden and Civic Center listening to a guitar duo perform the standards of the acoustic rock era -- Neil Young, America, Simon & Garfunkel, Jim Croce, and the obligatory Blackbird and Norwegian Wood by The Beatles. One guy had a Martin dreadnought and the other a Guild. And I thought, How perfect.

I've since lived to see the juggernaut of our culture roll over values that I had taken for granted. Yet there is something timeless and compelling, I think, about the idea of the minstrel -- Demodocus of the Odyssey, the bard in Beowulf, Le Concert Champêtre of Giorgione.

But "Whatever is worth doing at all is worth doing well" -- to which I add, Or not at all.

English Weather, despite its defects, will serve as sample, and I would require similar proof of musical proficiency from any potential collaborator.

My vision is flexible but uncompromising. Acoustic guitar duo, per above. Or maybe guitar and mandolin. Or early 20th century music, Tin Pan Alley or Ragtime, with guitar, mandolin or banjo. Or -- what I think would really be great -- something like Blackmore's Night -- a sort of "Renaissance folk" -- with viol, recorder, even hurdy gurdy.
