ABOUT

Band Bio

Chantilly Lace originally began as Chuck Darland on rhythm guitar and lead vocals along with his first wife Pam on bass guitar and vocals and a Coast Guard linesman Brad Bowman on drums . Dave Schaumburg joined the group 2 years later on bass guitar and vocals after Pam and Chuck divorced. Pam went to play bass with a very popular local country band called The Country Strings formed by the late Mike Rydell. After this the Chantilly Lace core members were Dave and Chuck with several drummers in between, including Dave's oldest son Davey Jr. It was Chuck and Dave who decided to go to we'll known local, John Nelson suggesting he start a music column in the Peninsula Daily News to get info out to the public about what bands are playing when and where before Friday so the public had plenty of notice which after almost 10 years, it turned out to be very successful. Recently due to ailing health John has since retired himself and the column. Chuck and Dave were joined in the 1980's by lead guitarist Dave 'Doc' Bailey. Together the three have become a local institution. After Dave's oldest son, Davey Jr., began playing drums with the group at the early age of 16 at the Whistling Oyster in Quilcene, the four remained together until 2013. They have a repertoire that spans almost fifty years, from Country to Classic Rock which they affectionately call 'CROCK' along with their own special brand of 50's and 60's. They briefly changed their name to 'JusTus' but went back to Chantilly Lace New Year's Eve 2010 after popular public pressure to do so. In 2013 the group went on hiatus for two years. Then they got the bad news. Dave Bailey, the lead guitarist and vocalist with the band , received a diagnosis of bone cancer, compounded by other health conditions, Dec. 6, 2013.
“They gave him a year to live,” Kathie, his wife said softly, remembering that dark day at Olympic Medical Center. After being moved to a cancer clinic in Seattle , Dave decided to propose to Kathie after 26 years of living together They were married Jan. 4, 2014, in the critical care unit.
The nurses served as bridal attendants. Someone fashioned a bow tie out of cardboard, and a member of the surgical staff had the credentials to perform the ceremony.
Months later at while at Doc's one Sunday, bandmate Chuck Darland and his wife Janeane were over watching the Seattle Seahawks game. Dave suddenly turned to Chuck and out of nowhere announced, “I want to play again as in with the band, no matter that it broke up last year."
“It’s in my blood,” Dave said in an interview earlier that week. It was then that Chuck decided to bring the group back together one more time for his close friend with Craig Dills replacing Davey Schaumburg Jr. on drums. A year later Jerry Gilleland became the group's drummer and still holds that position today. They have since continued to bring in crowds and expand upon their fan base along with being called "long time favorites" by The Peninsula Daily News. They have been making music across the Olympic Peninsula also including Yakima, Seattle, Tacoma, Port Hadlock, Neah Bay, Port Angeles, and Forks to name a few for forty plus years. Dave "Doc" Bailey, Jerry Gilleland , David Schaumburg and Chuck Darland are proud to part of the musical legacy of the Peninsula and are grateful for all their longtime loyal fans and the new ones who discover us for the first time.
