I am looking for musicians in a situation similar to mine who would like to get together just to play, practice, have fun, and maybe create something that becomes a serious project. Here is my situation: I play bass, but I haven't played seriously in an inexcusably long time. Lately I've been feeling the gaping hole in my life that music used to fill even moreso than usual. I have not officially studied music in over a decade, I'm pretty much self taught and I am extremely out of practice at the moment, but I'd love to just start getting back into it. I moved to Manhattan a little while back to attend grad school and I don't really know anyone here into the same musical ideas.
Several years ago I played in a variety of local punk and indie bands in Pennsylvania and was very involved in the local scene. I'm into a wide variety of music including indie, punk, folk, ska, jazz, and hip hop. I don't really like genres as a whole at all, but most of the stuff I love falls into one or more of those categories in some way. I especially like bands that are hard to pin labels on.
I'm open to playing with pretty much any type of musical instrument, the more variety the better, but in particular, guitarists, drummer, and vocalists are important. It doesn't matter to me much if you're a virtuoso, or also out of practice, or even a beginner, but it does matter that you are serious about music and love to play. I'd prefer that you be in your mid-20s to mid-30s, but I'm open to all.
If any of this sounds like you or appeals to you, please get in touch. I'd love to hear from you soon.
