I started playing drums in school band in 4th grade and started playing with grunge and punk bands in middle school, then rock/experimental in high school and college. I play set, but I also have a a wide variety of hand percussion (conga, djembe, frame drums, doumbek etc...). I haven't played as much set since I had to sell mine for want of somewhere to keep it when I was in college, though I have been in a couple of band situations in the last few years. I wind up playing more hand drums these days because I can keep them in my apartment, but I would relish the opportunity to have a regular opportunity to play set (obviously in a rehearsal studio situation).

Neil Peart was my early model, though I later diversified quite a bit to include jazz, funk, and avant garde. On hand drums, I listen to a lot of traditional and fusion music from India, the Middle East, and Latin America.

Instrument experience:

(for gigs) cymbals, snare, bass pedal.

Djembe, doumbek, conga, bendir/tar
